Against Buu? He watches Goku beat an opponent Vegeta could only stall.

Beerus, Goku gets god power and matches up with someone who made Vegeta at an enhanced state look like nothing.

Everything after was a more collaborative effort but Vegeta’s held that grudge for awhile.

In Buu, they fought 1v1 and it’s made very clear that not only would Goku have won with SSJ3, but he actively held back against Vegeta who gave up everything to fight at his best, including with a power boost from Babidi.

To Vegeta, massive loss.

To Vegeta, all these things were equivalent to losses.

Goku then compounded it by making the sacrifice play when anyone else would have been too scared to even try. Then the kid he trained beat Cell. All of which humiliated him so badly that Vegeta quit fighting for a bit.

In Vegeta’s view, Goku made him watch as he fought an opponent Vegeta was helpless against.

And then it turned out he didn’t even use the training time for himself, and was training someone even better while Vegeta had spent the entire time trying to better himself.

Goku matched up with Cell almost evenly when Vegeta couldn’t touch him. Yes, he would have lost eventually but still made Vegeta watch while he fought someone Vegeta couldn’t do a damn thing against.

Then it turned out Goku spent the year training Gohan to beat Cell, and still matched up.

Then? Becoming a Super Saiyan and toppling Frieza while Vegeta could do nothing except struggle and then die.

Goku fulfilled every one of Vegeta’s dreams instead of him, wounding his pride even more.
