I feel like an analysis of your sewing patterns is a no brainer here... Data stuff sorted.
New pre-pre-print:
I was recently asked to comment on superspreading for a BBC article. Little did I know, my quote would become the title!

Analyzing Data with AI Assistants Join us with Sara Altman Tues, Feb 3 @ 12 pm ET pos.it/dslab
Join us on Tuesday at the Data Science Lab π§ͺ We are joined by @sara-altman.bsky.social, who will show us how to explore and analyze data using AI assistants in #RStats or #Python!
Feb 3 @ 12 pm ET: pos.it/dslab
Really happy to hear this!
You can add your package yourself using the "Submit package" feature
Thanks for the feedback @datavisfriendly.bsky.social. There was a bug in the search tool. I've updated the search strategy, so now hopefully the packages you expect will appear. Unfortunately, typing "visualise frequency tables" will give you quite a few diverse results.
@datavisfriendly.bsky.social what output were you expecting?
It took me an embarrassingly long time to understand why this was called the warehouse. A really cool project with I think some great potential for making packages more discoverable/ surfacing user feedback.
Crucially, it also supports user-submitted packages and community reviews (thanks to feedback from @seabbs.bsky.social), to surface in-development tools and share peer experience beyond CRAN.
This is very much a prototype and currently self-funded. Iβd love feedback and ideas for sustainability.
You can search semantically (eg βinteractive plottingβ, βLLM-based toolsβ), compare packages via an AI chatbot powered by @anthropic.com's Claude, and explore category-based lists.
Iβve been thinking about how to find R packages by functionality when you donβt already know the package name.
So over the holidays, Claude Code and I built The Warehouse: a functionality-first R package directory that helps you find packages by what they do.

I was a bit all over the place, but hopefully there are some helpful nuggets in there! Live coding is always an adventure!
This is in 12 minutes!! Come see how to structure your R projects so that Future You doesn't hate Past You π

Also, be nice to me, my eye is all messed up and I can't see well today π See you there!!
So excited to hear from @kylieainslie.bsky.social about Project Folder Structures in #RStats at the Data Science Lab, happening today at 12 pm ET!
Come join us if the situation below feels familiar to you... pos.it/dslab
Join me, @libbyheeren.bsky.social, and @ivelasq3.bsky.social for @posit.co's Data Science Lab @ 12PM ET TODAY!
I'll be walking through how I use the R package structure to work more efficiently and the tools I use to do it!

@seabbs.bsky.social is (not so) secretly a curmudgeonly grandpa.
That would require me to actually send Christmas cards. International postage is expensive! π€
Thanks @darakhshann.bsky.social! I'm really glad you enjoyed it. You never know if what you find useful resonates with anyone else. βΊοΈ
While people seem to think the principles are useful, I'm still struggling with how to motivate people to actually try it. I keep getting the reply: it's more work π

I just watched this. You're right, epic! It inspires me to dream up more side projects.
This hangout was soooooo good! Thanks @davisvaughan.bsky.social @isabelizimm.bsky.social for the insights!
rainbowR has grown massively over the last three years - we're now over 250 members. We're getting to be a well-established community, full of lovely, friendly LGBTQ+ folks, who enjoy hanging out and sharing our love of R.
If that sounds like you, join us!

We hope this work sparks more research into scabies epidemiology. There's still a lot to learn, and we're excited to see where this goes.
Thanks to my co-authors MariΓ«tte Hooiveld and Jacco Wallinga and funders @rivm-nl.bsky.social and @ec.europa.eu (Horizon ESCAPE project)!
Caveat #2: Our Rt estimates were estimated using GP consultation dates as a proxy for symptom onset, but diagnostic delays of 7β12 are well-documented. Future work needs:
- Data on time from symptom onset to healthcare seeking
- Incidence data that captures cases outside GP settings
Caveat #1: Our serial interval estimates rely on limited outbreak data and carry real uncertainty. More studies, especially from community settings, are needed with specific collection of:
- Transmission pair data
- Data on primary infections vs. reinfections
We also developed {mitey}, an R π¦ implementing our methods for serial interval (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25294601/) and Rt (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17476782/) estimation.
It's validated against historical outbreaks and applicable to other infectious diseases too.
