Shoresy is brilliant, stupid television and I love it.
Fantastic article about the importance of being able to exist in a space, and how we're chipping away at community in some obvious and disturbing ways. We found Moynihan a nightmare for my aging parents; the inability to sit *anywhere* was frustrating and unnecessary.
It's still one of the greatest albums ever. I don't think I can make it through without crying at least once. I think I must have been 14 or 15 the first time I heard it and I actually do remember being overwhelmed by how lush and dense it was. And then I listened to the lyrics and just π«ͺ
Look, this is just science.
You don't talk about how quiet it is in the Emergency Room.
You don't complain about how slow it is half an hour before the restaurant closes.
You don't mention how little traffic there is on the way to the airport.
The universe listens, and is spiteful.
Weed! Control! It's my favorite gardening hack.
I nominate you for coach. That game was abysmal. They did however have dogs doubledutching during halftime and that was worth watching...
My mother and sister absolutely live for a fried livermush sandwich. I went vegetarian pretty young so I have no memory of eating one, but they were a THING at my house. My grandmother had a specific skillet for it.
This. Is. AMAZING.
I'm already back on the coast, and I fly back Tuesday morning. Whirlwind trip.
Barely - we were "retirement community hunting" for my parents, but I asked for an evening off to go dancing. I was barely in town - next trip I'll actually let you know well ahead so I can see folks!! Fingers crossed we'll have them moved closer to the area so I can actually come & SEE PEOPLE! π
That's AMAZING. Nice job.

In Mass we have a specific case mgmt program that Medicaid pays for called Community Support Program for Justice-Involved Individuals (CSP-JI) that "provides community-based behavioral health support, care coordination, and re-entry services for adults impacted by the criminal justice system".
An army marches on its stomach. This is bad for morale, for people's health and (least important but perhaps most likely to move the needle) for public perception of the war.
Whisky Pete Kegsbreath deserves the Hague to START.
NICE.
Well, this is exactly what I needed today.
I'm genuinely shocked we're not hearing more about the very valid possibility that Fetterman has literal brain damage post stroke. I'm not saying this to give him a pass, but it amazes me that more hasn't been said about the aftermath of a major neuro event on his decision making.
I'm willing to entertain a vague notion that this could apply to either U2 or REM but even THEN you have to give them 2 decades where the Beatles had 1. And it's still a stretch. And also Pavement lol no.
Now there's a trolley problem with an obvious solution.
I mention this a lot. People think I've misspoken, gotten a number wrong or don't believe it's possible. I almost always double check myself because it feels impossible. This statistic seems unreal. It's not.
We should be embarrassed & angry that it is, AND that there isn't more outrage.
This is one thing I do NOT understand about Mass politics - in too many cases, municipalities (et al) will do anything BUT the right thing, and wait until they get sued to fix it. Like, this state is LOUSY with lawyers and law schools. Is this a jobs program?
I just need you to know that my (80 year old, deeply sheltered librarian) mother is cackling over here at your user name, and my partner has declared "My greatest regret in all of life is that I did not take that handle I am just discovering"
I am IN AWE. Well done.
The indirect verification sounds like an interesting option, but I will point out that notaries often charge for their services, and I'm not sure most town clerks would want to have to take on the onus of this. But it's AN option, and I think it's worth making available to people. Creative thinking!
Mom's monitors her heart and my niece's monitors and alerts if she's about to have a seizure (and also notifies my sis). I have an analog watch but I can see the value.
They have Republican Freedom β’οΈ which is like regular freedom but only for Republicans and only if and when it suits them.**

I genuinely appreciate your thoughtful responses, even if we differ on the method and the potential outcomes. Thanks for engaging in good faith.
Well then if *none* of that's going to stop it then neither will ID verifications. I'm not totally clear what point you're hoping to make then?
... determined kids off of them anyway, and making them seem illicit may make them MORE appealing, not less. The privacy implications for ALL of us also have to be considered here, because they are HUGE. It also moves the burden of accountability to parents and away from these predatory companies.
Set the phone up so the apps can't be downloaded & monitor usage, or provide a phone that doesn't access the Internet. Most important, have conversations about why these apps are dangerous, & check in regularly about how kids are spending their time. Making them harder to access isn't going to keep
