2SER has trained generations of people in broadcasting and offers free access to people from all sorts of backgrounds, giving them experience in media and a voice they would never otherwise have. Community radio is so important. This is terrible news

ABC staff strike: BBC content to replace flagship shows, including 7.30 and AM Triple J will air without presenters while ABC News Breakfast is not expected to air as staff walk off the job to protest pay and conditions The ABC’s flagship news programs including 7.30 and AM will be replaced by the BBC World Service when ABC journalists walk off the job for 24 hours for the first time in 20 years on Wednesday. Staff are protesting what they say is a low pay offer from ABC managing director Hugh Marks, as well as work conditions and the broadcaster’s refusal to rule out replacing journalists with AI bots. Sure. How much do you think you should pay me to use my name?
It's really important to think about attribution and think about impersonation, and so on. As an expert, you have a trade you make on the internet. The idea is that when you put content out there, myself included, you hope people use it. You want to refer to other people's content.
You want people to link to you. You really, really hope they attribute you when they do. When somebody uses your content, should they attribute you? Of course. And to attribute you, you have to use your name.
There's a different line which is, should people be able to impersonate you? And I think that is a very different standard. And we saw the lawsuit. Respectfully, we believe the claims are without merit. The idea that the feature is impersonation is quite a big stretch. Every mention was very clearly, "This is inspired not only by this person, but also inspired by a specific work from this specific person, with a clear attributed link to get back to them." It's far from that test lof impersonation].

Here’s my interview with Shishir Mehotra, the CEO behind Grammarly’s “expert review” feature which attributed writing advice to people - including me lol - without permission. Or, as you will hear us talk about a lot, compensation. www.theverge.com/podcast/8987...

A Disturbing New Low in the Polymarket Era Maybe turning war into a casino was a bad idea?

Interviewed the journalist who was getting death threats from polymarket gamblers to change his reporting on an Iranian missile strike. Scary stuff in here about how the intense harassment made him (for just a split second) doubt what he saw and reported. Others may not have his conviction/morals.

The media spreads so much disinformation about this so I’ll explain:

If someone who needs a carer decides they say want a haircut, they obviously need a carer to go with them. The carer puts the activity down on their time sheet. The media spins that as ‘the ndis is being used for haircuts’.

"At least once a week, every week, 1800 RESPECT – run by Telstra Health – is being subpoenaed, and not only is the $147 million government-funded service handing over confidential client notes, but 1800 RESPECT is also handing over complete audio recordings of victim counselling sessions"

A big takeaway this year has to be that Sinners and One Battle After Another were big, artist driven, swings bankrolled by WB whose future is ultimately unclear. I like living in a world where people like PTA and Ryan Coogler get to make the films they want to make with those resources.

Cutting the creative state: funding changes threaten the cultural future of Melbourne, arts workers warn Creative Victoria funding has dropped by more than $20m since 2022 and organisations including Writers Victoria now face closure

I spoke to @gingerandhoney.bsky.social this week about the cuts to Victoria’s arts funding ecosystem.

The cuts, the uncertainty and lack of transparency have left a cloud over what was Australia’s creative heart.

The Melbourne Advantage is over. We’ll see if other cities pick up the pieces.

I just did the dumbest thing of my entire career to prove a much more serious point.

I tricked ChatGPT and Google, and made them tell other users I’m a competitive hot-dog-eating world champion

People are using this trick on a massive scale to make AI tell you lies. I’ll explain how I did it
