To save you a click, here's the TL;DR
Prioritize making friends
Keep detailed notes
Use version control
Keep backups of everything
Turn everything into a portfolio piece
Learn and use Allar's styleguide
Do not chase perfection
Hoard free fortnightly Fab assets
Study and use sample projects

So you want to learn Unreal Engine... now what? What I wish I knew and did from day one

I wrote a thing for all of y'all getting into Unreal Engine and/or gamedev. Most of this is very specialty (and even engine) agnostic so hopefully many folks can find something useful here!

My headcanon is that AI was built in the image of it's main pushers - overconfident tech bros. So of course an AI talks like one while also completely missing the point like one.

game-dev-foundry Resources for game developers.

Since Potions' console launches shipped (crash-free!), I was able to buckle down and add new content to Game Dev Foundry, including "Stages of Game Development" with best practices!

I hope these free resources help others on their #gamedev and #indiedev path!

We've had a router do similar shenanigans and heavily prioritize certain devices over others on the network. We never figured out how it decided who got internet speeds and who didn't. Turned the dang "optimization" setting off the second we found it.

Only vaguely related but if a buncha older ladies got together and made a game that would be my GOTY immediately no questions asked.

I think I know who this VFX artist is! I hear she's super cool!

That's just a web dev! But I'd approve an interpretation as Web Ent Wickler. Whatever wickling an ent could possibly mean...

I think the extra minutes are for cooking the curved side lol

A tutorial that disables everything except the one thing they want me to click. Have genuinely refunded games on steam over that. An otherwise bad tutorial will chase me away too

you just blew my entire mind

Persona 5 Strikers literally puts an AI chatbot character on your team. I'm not surprised.

Fun fact, the performance loss of BP over C++ isn't that bad anyway and negligible in most cases. Ignore them, it's easier to poopoo something irrelevant than help so that's what they do

I will say leaving the cast failed execution pin disconnected is brave! Don't know how much of my life I've spent chasing mystery bugs because of such silent failures. I either put an error/warning log there or convert to pure cast (a crash is noisy alright :D )
