If anyone knows a 3D Character artist who might be looking for some work in the somewhat near future let me know.

Modern warfare 2 (2009) was the last good game ever made

There’s probably a correlation here that isn’t hard to discover if you only look at it from a slightly different angle.

Certainly could be. Mostly just when your entire life revolves around something and you don't have anything to do outside of that when it becomes a problem. Now days I think I'd be fine :)

I can’t believe you personally are responsible. And after Pi day too. SMH my head.

(this is sarcasm / a joke)

Good luck! Hope you get there!

As a tip you’ve probably heard plenty of times though, careful not to turn a hobby you love into a job you hate.

Working at VRC burned me out of VR for example. Not necessarily because of working on VR itself, just the stress.

Well now you have no choice but to inexplicably delete the post and reload it with the fix

(I am joking)

Okay, on my way. I’ll bring an entire tree to poke with. See you in roughly 12 hours or so. Hope the airplane can fit a tree.

But also, this is the thing I have the least experience in. I’ve only ever done freelance work and worked at VRC.

I’ve never had a corporate job, so take it with a grain of salt. I can only tell you what id look for if I was trying to hire someone personally

Really what I mean by this is;

If for example you want to be hired at riot games for character modelling… try to match their practices.

If you want to be hired for texture art, match their practices and style.

plenty of people do crazy fan art and end up being hired because of how good it was

I’d be okay hiring an artist, but those things are *not* necessary or things that another person or company would look for.

It’s also dependent on the context of the project and what it requires.

This one I’m not really too sure on. Realistically it’s going to likely change from person to person and company to company.

If you can see what type of topology a specific company you want to be hired at prefers, maybe try and learn to mimic it.

There are certain things I look for to tell if …

The compiler won’t remove for you. Having an if statement that has a texture sample hidden behind it is generally preferred not to be a thing if avoidable for instance.

Simply having blend shapes on a mesh increases the cost of that mesh existing, but I’m not sure how bad it is these days.

Other than that the only thing you didn’t really mention that I’m aware of is loop and branch optimization in shaders. There’s a few insidious gotchas that sometimes

You’ll have to learn how to get the light direction, the normals of the mesh, sample textures, potentially do some matrix math, sample reflection probes, and handle additive lights, along with some other stuff if you want to get more advanced.

I think genuinely implementing a basic lighting model is a good way to get started with shaders.

The math is fairly simple, and it exposes you to whatever the engines internal APIs are frequently. It’s one of the first things i try to do in a new engine personally.

Go for it I’m happy to oblige

Is anybody interested in knowledge I have about tech art / shaders / modeling? If you have any questions about anything feel free to ask and I’ll probably respond.

While the discord server I was speaking in is a fairly easy to reach (private) place and what I said was true to the best of my knowledge, I would have appreciated being asked about posting it.

Just a little show of respect. Consider that there was a reason that I didn't respond publicly.

While I respect the world author's vision, they clearly don't understand what makes their world a success.

I don’t know what to post about anymore.

Am I supposed to just ramble about my health anxiety or what?
