Fun days in the lab!
Great seeing the progress of these two in setting up 3D ultrasound imaging. This will be used for their projects: Daan De Vlieger on muscle assessment in stroke patients and Liese Bosman in 3D muscle shapes of contracting muscles!

There are a couple of weeks left to apply! I just heard that we can also accept PhD students with a suitable background, so extending the call to those as well. #biomech_sky
Thank you @sebiology.bsky.social for featuring me and my lab in the autumn magazine.
My international journey has been incredibly valuable, including the fantastic people I have met and worked with.

The Nishikawa lab at Northern Arizona University and the NSF-funded Integrative Movement Sciences Institute are hiring a postdoc to help develop multiscale muscle models - please apply and share widely! careers.nau.edu/cw/en-us/job...
My research group has an open position for a postdoc! Interested in investigating the postural transition towards mammalian gait using movement simulations? We might have the right position for you! More details and application info here: www.asm.tf.fau.de/en/2025/11/1...
Synergistic yet different: Rethinking the gastrocnemii as two functionally distinct muscles.
In this preprint perspective article, @francoishug.bsky.social and I delve into the biomechanics, anatomy, neural control, and function of the gastrocnemius muscles, two important calf muscles.
Very happy with the first paper out of the Brussels Neuromuscular Biomechanics Lab!
We provide evidence that the #SENIAM #EMG guidelines are not appropriate for the LG and SOL muscles and that muscle-tendon decoupling needs to be considered!

Did you know that when you peer review for JEB, @biologists.bsky.social will protect a tree in Great Knott Wood, the Lake District, as part of its #ForestOfBiologists initiative to foster biodiversity? Every time you peer review for us we help the planet
Fish suck... but species that feed on algae suck differently! ๐ A new publication in Communications Biology by #UAFunMorph members Jana De Ridder, Peter Aerts, and Sam Van Wassenbergh, demonstrates how head motion patterns for generating suction are finetuned to the species' main diets.
Needless to say: Iโm out of the office ๐
๐ In a new article published in J Biomech, Funaro et al estimates both patient-specific material coefficients and friction coefficient between two subtendon layers in vivo for patients with Achilles tendinopathy.

Who needs scientists when you can just make things up! I say, get rid of all science and speed up progress!! Or extinction. Whatever.
Fun night out with the team after a full day of testing in the lab on an exciting #EMG project.
All excited now for comparative muscle biomechanics at the upcoming @sebiology.bsky.social conference in (soon-to-be) sunny Antwerp!

๐งต๐ Hereโs why you should be there (view thread)
A social media card with the Company of Biologists logo in the top left and a photo of a woman standing in shallow water placing a small bucket inside of a larger bucket in the top right who is a previous recipient of a Travelling Fellowship. Underneath these it says 'Are you an early career researcher planning to do a collaborative visit to another lab? You could be eligible for funding from us.' In the bottom right is a button stating 'Find out more.'
If you are a graduate student or a postdoc, consider applying for one of ourโฌ Travelling Fellowships and you could receive up to ยฃ3000 to visit another lab & collaborate with other researchers. Deadline 8 August 2025

This paper in #ProcB investigates a creative question: how human vocalisation relates to body dynamics, especially with some muscles attached to the torso, and finding that there is indeed a relationship:
