Thank you Atlus! 😆
Pen Pen Tricelon was one of the other three, and it was terrible. But you still bought it as long as you had something to put in the console.
5 - Pen Pen Tricelon
There was a remote time when consoles were launched with a handful of titles; at the Japanese launch of the Dreamcast there were as many as...four games available, and only Virtua Fighter 3tb was decent.
Also… I miss manuals and extras in video game boxes. This version included a full manual and also an extra booklet with all the characters moves, a comic, extra illustrations… I miss those times…
Playing with the standard two button controller was a bit tricky, you use Select to switch between Punch and Kick, but it was perfectly serviceable.
(no 16 bit console version of the game was), but it was extremely faithful and you could play it on the go on a PC Engine GT!
It was released a bit later than Street Fighter II SNES version and included all the Champion Edition improvements.
4 - Street Fighter II Champions Edition (PC Engine)
I’ve got a PC Engine very late: it was kind of a mythical gaming machine here in Italy. The PC Engine port of Street Fighter II Champion Edition was stunning: it was not arcade perfect by any means
It was released in Japan only, and only 3.000 Limited Editions were manufactured.
It was also one of the latest Dreamcast releases.
This is my Limited Edition, I remember it was extremely costly to import back in 2003!
#3 - Border Down
I’ve been a long time shoot’em up fan, and this is probably one of the rarest piece in my Dreamcast collection. In the end Border Down by G.Rev was a competent shooter with a great soundtrack, but it acquired a legendary status for its extremely low run.
Video games yellow paint in the real world.
Here you can see my full collection: the original JP version, the US version, the soundtrack, the What's Shenmue demo disk and… why Virtua Fighter 3tb? The JP version of the game had a disk about 'Project Berkley', full of Shenmue footage!
The game is so close to me that during the development of On Your Tail we realized that Shenmue was ultimately a major source of inspiration for the game. How crazy, I would never have imagined 25 years ago that I would be working on a game so similar in spirit!
Was it perfect? Not at all, but playing it could only leave you speechless, and the game showed all the care and dedication that Yu Suzuki and the team had put into it. I got my JP version at launch, and I remember playing it at New Year's Eve.
