This is why the correct position is @davidcolarusso.com’s contextual contrarianism (sorry David, stealing that).

I agree with this, but on the flip side even though we get workload for articles and books, the academic publishing industry is significantly more extractive by the Conversation by several factors. Having to pay open access fees for research that was already funded by the public is perverse.

That’s kind of the problem though. Because RHLF depends on users ranking helpful responses, ideally from a design perspective you want to get as much feedback as possible. People say they don’t want sycophantic chat bots but we don’t want Marvin the paranoid android either.

It reminds me somewhat of how Robert E. Howard and H.P. Lovecraft are both influential in modern fantasy and were both despicably racist men.

There’s a lawyer here in South Australia who included hallucinated references in written submissions and as a result has lost their unrestricted practicing certificate. The decision is unpublished but we are starting to see some professional consequences.

Latest Australian Generative AI practicing note just dropped.

It is good to have that as a baseline expectation. LLMs have been around for almost 4 years, there is really no excuse for lawyers not to know the basics of how LLMs work.

I think they hate multiculturalism because it acts as a firewall against authoritarianism/neofeudalism/fascism. It is much harder to dehumanise people if they are neighbours, coworkers or friends.

Don’t forget AfriGen the South African mRNA incubator.

Oh yeah, I just kind of learned to live with that existential dread.

Aside from that, I have a refurbished mini M4 and it’s a zippy little machine. If my experience is anything to go by, it will still run after apocalypse. I’m sure the Linux kernel team will push updates via usb carried by pigeon.

I don’t think the US is a reliable military or political ally anymore.

You would also see a lot more metal (hello Indonesia) which would be good.

The idea-expression distinction strikes again. Well played indeed.

This would 1) actually be better than regular Eurovision and 2) would be more appropriate for Australia to join rather than our awful cultural cringe we do now.

Gentle reminder to join your union and attend your union meetings. I went to the @nteunion.bsky.social’s meeting at Flinders University and I got a cool t-shirt made by one of my favourite Australian made clothing brands Qualitops. Hooray for unions (and t-shirts)!

Certainly had a more satisfying ending than “the big bad tries to kill our hero but his pants fall down and he tries to waddle away but accidentally waddles over a balcony and falls headfirst into a truck of pig manure and his legs wiggle around and everyone sees his heart patterned boxers”.

How would that revenue compare to coding revenue though? My guess is that Anthropic has cut their grass and now OpenAI are pivoting.

3 weeks ago 0 0 0 0

Isn’t this just because Anthropic have displaced them in the productivity space and OpenAI are trying to pivot?

*hard to know how much

It’s hard to know much to read into that. Seems like Labor are suffering the biggest swings to One Nation in seats where the incumbent has retired or moved. In my seat (Florey) the swing seems to be mostly Labor to Green/Animal Justice Party.
