<MAKE SURE TO MODIFY> Hello, I post photos and share content and text, both personal (pictures of my self, family and friends) and share work that I own the Copyrights to, on Instagram and Facebook. A few days ago I heard the news that EDPB will granted Meta the right to train their AI on public posts on Instagram and Facebook. My only option for dealing with this is to "opt-out". There are a series of problems with this: 1. I only heard of this AFTER Meta has already started trawling through public posts. News reports differ, but I have the impression that they started already on the 14th of April, which means that its too late to opt-out due to the nature of these AI models and how they are trained. 2. Even if I do Opt-out, others on social media are uploading images and content related to me, that can be tied to me through these AI in ways that would violate GDPR. 3. There are others who upload my copyright protected material, both with and without permissions from me, that I now have to reach out to and plead to opt-out of AI training in time to avoid my work from being used. 4. If Meta trains a model like LLAMA and uploads the weights as part of an "Open Source" project, my data will be included in perpetuity. This seems like a bad decision from EDPB that defies the interests of European citizens and my rights under GDPR, data protection and international copyright agreements like the Berne Convention Article 9(2) (because companies train AI models on photographers and artists works to compete with them). I would like to know if you intend to flag this or escalate a case to be taken up in the EDPB. Looking forward to you response. Regards, <YOUR NAME HERE>
