My theory on Maddison is that he’s on the bench so he can do fake warm ups to gee up the crowd.

I’m actually a huge fan of Spurs saying “we probably can’t avoid getting relegated so let’s make even our own fans want it to happen.“

Went to a card shop today and it’s kinda amazing the proportion of birthday cards that are negative/ derogatory to some degree.

I just want the people who made that signing to meet the people who gave Bentancur a new contract. Could be useful.

Just utterly maddening. We've been so bad, and so injury ravaged, across 3 seasons and their main worry was having too many players.

I did! I could mostly follow it (though any shot rendered it invisible)! The main takeaway was a very strong desire to drive that machine that smooths(?) during the breaks.

How the Chelsea case proves that cheats can prosper in the Premier League Chelsea have avoided the most serious punishment, writes Miguel Delaney, but the Premier League must now address a wider issue to avoid undermining the very reason for its existence

Spurs got 86 points in 2016-17 - very high for a non-champion

A Chelsea propelled by these payments beat them

That changed history could have transformed Spurs’ present - which is all too relevant now

Wolves playing home to Liverpool on Tuesday and then again on Friday feels all wrong.

I’d forgotten that. We’ve been in the trenches for so long.

“Igor Tudor” is going to be an incredible quiz answer one day.

Indeed! Yeah, when people ask what's happened for us to be in this situation, the unifying answer, I take it, is complacency, caused by how much energy went into the stadium, what its opening seemed, erroneously, to symbolise, and reaching the CL final. In hindsight, the latter seems like a curse.

Don’t mean this as a dunk *at all* but I keep thinking back to that VFTL where you mentioned seeing a ”no more lady gaga” protest sign or something like that. I agreed with you entirely at the time but now I wonder if there wasn’t something to that, in terms of the focus of the club.

keep seeing spurs stories about DOFs, transfer targets that really don’t feel like a club about to get relegated.

The Premier League is an unwatchable slog because the PGMOL has chosen to not call obstruction, grabbing, holding, etc.. on corners.

It’s an absolutely embarrassment for the Premier League and I doubt they will do anything about it.

This airport sign seems to amount to “no wild dogs”

He's (understandably) underplaying how miraculous reaching the CL final was (in more than one way).

Yes, to the extent that I could find a steer from the rules it seemed like that. Quite annoying given that an indirect free kick to the defending team is less good than a goalkick from the hands! My kid’s team have loads of counterattacks stopped this way.

Question from kid football today: suppose a keeper is trying to kick the ball from their hands, if an opponent intentionally runs across their path, can the keeper still go ahead with the kick (and smash it into the player from close range)?

Oh nice! What’s he like, stylistically?

That would be satisfying. And definitely the groundwork is there (the dance party). And, marginally, Jamie looking so much like Rick Grimes primes you to underestimate it.

I met him last season with my eldest and he seemed such a lovely kid. Said that the janitor asked him if he'd watched the derby at the weekend and he got to say "Yeah, I scored in it." Really hope he comes good for us.
