US elites decided, like a school of fish, that climate concern is old, boring, "woke," square, not hip & popular any more. As usual, it was based almost entirely on internal elite dynamics. It had nothing to do with the actual public, which is more concerned than ever.

Fossil fuels can be thought of as a convenience for Big Oil CEOs and lobbyists. Still, given that they are a (if not THE) leading preventable cause of premature death and ill-health, I'd call them a significant inconvenience for the rest of us.

Abolish what, exactly?
History was just made! 🔋 For the first time ever, renewables outpaced natural gas on the US grid for an entire month. The future we’re building for our kids is getting cleaner every single day. Let’s keep this momentum! #CleanEnergy #ClimateHope #RenewableUSA

The future is already here, although it's not evenly distributed.
If you want to see the future more clearly, take a gander at this declaration for a fossil fuel-free Pacific, signed last week by officials from six Pacific island nations.

Communities are becoming more reluctant to host data centers, sometimes citing health concerns. There isn't yet much direct evidence of health harms, but there is lots of indirect evidence to support the concern. Learn about it here.

I’m surprised it took them so long to consult the handbook on this.
Rules for Repressives, Chapter 4:
If you don’t like the rules, change them.
about the health benefits and health care cost savings from switching to clean energy convinces people this is the right path to a better health and greater prosperity now, and a better future for our children and grandchildren.

doing so will prove clean energy is the better, more economical, and healthier choice for people and the planet. Second, partner with us in the health community to build public support for fossil fuel phase-out. Health voices are more trusted than government voices, and the facts we can share…
I’m delighted to be playing a role in this conference, as co-chair of the Health Benefits (of fossil fuel phase-out) advisory group. Our advice to the governments is quite simple. First, factor the health harms and health care costs of fossil fuels into your energy policy decisions, because…

This is NOT a David v Goliath situation. It’s more like a Homer (Simpson) vs (Carl) Sagan situation.
"At least 88 of the largest corporations in America paid no federal corporate income taxes in their most recent fiscal year despite enjoying substantial pretax profits in the U.S."
Cool. Cool cool cool.

Gas tax breaks are bandaids at best. Real solution is to help low & middle-income Cdns get off fossil fuels. Invest in solar, heat pumps, batteries, EVs. Tackle barriers, offer real incentives & fund w/ windfall tax on Big Oil (who are laughing all the way to the bank). Cleaner, cheaper, healthier.

"it’s sad to watch this country sabotage itself and cede the most important industry of the future to China.... In the end, we aren’t just burning fossil fuels; we’re also burning our future." open.substack.com/pub/paulkrug...
Heat pumps are the most efficient heating technology ever invented.
They harvest and compress pre existing heat in the air, ground or water and transport it where it is needed.
That energy is all around us.
And it does not have to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
Hazzah!
Remember: There is nothing natural or inevitable about extreme inequality; it’s the result of an economic system that values wealth and power over human dignity and justice.
It doesn't have to be this way.
UCS just released a very nice and concise guide for how to stay safe in the public eye -- for scholars and researchers, but also for anyone else concerned about safety during autocratization:

Democrats are all too often fossil-fuel advocates — sometimes even paid to be so!
This means they’re not representing the feelings of their base.
Seems like a problem for them 🤔
Since Trump took office, 365 clean energy projects have been canceled, delayed, or are laying off staff.

They exceeded it.
