We're looking for research articles, experience reports, and industry insight papers. If you were involved with STC or work with similar organizations, we'd particularly like to hear from you. Queries welcome at stcspecialissue@gmail.com.
STC membership declined from over 20,000 in the early 2000s to 1,300 when it closed. It was impacted by changing professional practices, technologies, and education. But these challenges aren't unique to STC. They should concern anyone running organizations or academic programs in our field.
Huiling, Xiaoli, and I are editing a CDQ special issue on sustaining tech comm professional organizations in times of disruption, especially in light of the dissolution of the Society for Technical Communication (STC) in January. Proposals are due Dec 15.

It's a great opportunity for early career researchers. Past projects have used the funds to purchase needed software or technologies, to compensate participants and collaborators, or simply as stipends to allow them to set aside time for the project. We're looking forward to seeing your proposals!
We explore how graduate program websites promote a instrumental value for degrees, focusing on what they can do for students after graduation rather than on the experiences during the degree. There’s room for more caring, human-centered ways to describe our programs to prospective students.
Excited to present with Shawbe Seal at #SIGDOC25 today at 2 PM!
