tell politicians, the board of trustees, and university admins that we demand: an affordable university that serves the public good, living wages for faculty and staff, belief in survivors of sexual violence, enthusiastic, supportive diversity, an Ohio State university that protects free speech, research and academic freedom

The suppression of free speech at OSU continued with the arrest of a student and a staff member at a protest against an event featuring IDF soldiers. New president, same tactics.

See the two articles below featuring the voices of students and faculty.

We’re not only interested in listing the crises but taking them on and making this a place that’s worthy of its students, faculty, staff and all campus workers.

Of its alumni and all community members that value what we do here.

The article then describes a gathering of AAUP faculty discussing the multiple crises and next steps.

The ending of the article is significant, and not just because we are cited.

The last word in the article is given to the AAUP-OSU chapter leaders and our treasurer and board member Erynn Beaton, describing the violence by the Chase Center prof against a journalist as a “symptom” of systemic problems at Ohio State.

Many brutal parts of this story about the polycrisis at Ohio State University - “Presidential turnover. Les Wexner. Free speech. The State Legislature. The Chase Center. The board of trustees.” - but none as mean as the condescension of the headline. At least @osuaaup.bsky.social gets the last word.

"Presidential turnover. Les Wexner. Free speech. The State Legislature. The Chase Center. The board of trustees.
It was a long list."

We're working on it! @osuaaup.bsky.social @aaup.org

Full-time salaries for most categories of faculty have remained about the same since 2002, adjusting for inflation, while admin pay soars.

Faculty have had enough. We’re fighting back nationwide.

Join the student-led march on campus Friday. Faculty: bring the umbrellas sent by the medical center to promote the new building and cross off W****. This is about taking a stand for all survivors at OSU, and demanding accountability.

Ohio State University selects Ravi Bellamkonda as new president with $1.4 million salary • Ohio Capital Journal Ohio State University selected a new president last week — days after former president Ted Carter resigned over an “inappropriate relationship.”

Ohio State University's new president will start with a $1.4M salary...yet faculty did not get a meaningful say in the hiring process.

“This hasty, undemocratic process starts this presidency on the wrong footing & sends the wrong message about our supposed shared values.”

Ted Carter’s hypocrisy at December’s OSU commencement

“Be a truth speaker, a truth seeker and a truth receiver,” he continued and the entire arena cheered. Then the former Top Gun pilot almost sounded as if he knew what his fate would soon be. #ohio @osuaaup.bsky.social

We deplore the racist and anti-immigrant comments about OSU’s new president, Dr. Ravi Bellamkonda, that have been appearing on social media in response to his appointment. We call on all Ohioans - and everyone else - to stand firm against hate and prejudice, regardless of what we think about the selection process. Racism, anti-Asian or otherwise, has no place in our state.

The amount of blatant profiteering and disregard for norms in higher education at public institutions is baffling. At the same time, maybe a speedrun record for no confidence vote to send a message?

Please see our statements and comments this week in other posts.

A lot has been going on since Ted Carter resigned in disgrace on Monday. We’re grateful to have a robust team of dozens of faculty leaders who have volunteered their time and energy to respond in this moment of crisis….
