I do these lectures and people ask me, “BUT WHAT ABOUT AI?!”

Which A.I.? Where? When? Under what conditions?

Telling me it’s inevitable and it changes everything is like asking me to critique policy in a Grimm’s fairytale.

Remember that meme about "what would you contribute to the post-apoc society?" That was viral poison, getting you used to thinking of people (incl yourself) as tools.
Instead, read @naomikritzer.bsky.social 's story The Year Without Sunshine. We gave it the Hugo Award for a *reason*

tweet from @AaronRegunberg single best description of AI i've ever read, from the great Ted Chiang. attached is a picture of a quote from ted chiang: The task that generative AI has been most successful at is lowering our expectations, both of the things we read and of ourselves when we write anything for others to read. it is a fundamentally dehumanizing technology because it treats us as less than what we are: creators and apprehenders of meaning. it reduces the amount of intention in the world.
