I bet $TSLA tanks tomorrow, but a rebound is engineered in a week or two as feds announce they’re going to invest in Tesla infrastructure and buy EV’s for federal service. Red state gov’s will do the same. Based on nothing except a hunch.

My absolute favorite is to stay up all night getting an abstract in before the midnight deadline, only to get a deadline extension email the following morning.

Kurt Vonnegut tells his wife he's going out to buy an envelope:
"Oh, she says, well, you're not a poor man.
You know, why don't you go online and buy a hundred envelopes and put them in the closet?
And so I pretend not to hear her. And go out to get an envelope because I'm going to have a hell of a good time in the process of buying one envelope.
I meet a lot of people. And see some great looking babies. And a fire engine goes by.
And I give them the thumbs up. And I'll ask a woman what kind of dog that is. And, and I don't know. The moral of the story is — we're here on Earth to fart around
And, of course, the computers will do us out of that. And what the computer people don't realize, or they don't care, is we're dancing animals. You know, we love to move around.
And it's like we're not supposed to dance at all anymore."

I think it’s important that DOGE knows that we keep up with the relevant literature in the “last week” replies. So I’m sending this:

This just gets worse & worse.

Under Trump’s new policy, cancer researchers at the NIH aren’t allowed to buy reagents, effectively halting research.

Had a convo with someone outside of medicine, and I said “man that must be nice.”
Him: “ imagine all the paperwork you hate doing. And all the dumb initiatives that your superiors think up. That’s all I do, but it doesn’t help people, and my bosses weren’t smart enough to go to medical school.”

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Won’t Pay for the Complete Duration of Anesthesia for Patients’ Surgical Procedures In an unprecedented move, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield plans representing Connecticut, New York and Missouri have unilaterally declared it will no longer pay for anesthesia care if the surgery or procedure goes beyond an arbitrary time limit, regardless of how long the surgical procedure takes. The American Society of Anesthesiologists calls on Anthem to reverse this proposal immediately.

As a surgeon, I have some thoughts on this. 🧵

Absolutely thrilled that we have a “patient access program” that tends to only address wealthy and savvy patients, demanding a 14 day scheduling turnaround for a 4.0cm aneurysm that was seen on a CT scan over a year ago.

Book cover for Omon Ra by Victor Pelevin showing a cosmonaut with the head of a hawk.

I read a book and really liked it, and will probably re-read it in the next week. Absolutely absurd and satirical, but with a tender side. And it deals with the Cold War, space exploration, and propaganda in hilarious ways. “Omon Ra” by Victor Pelevin.
