Imho, four of its tracks (‘Isle of Avalon’, ‘Starblind’, ‘The Talisman’, and ‘The Man Who Would Be King’) are among the very best material they ever released. Absolute 🔥 But there’s also a lot of chaff. And the cover art is second only to “DoD” as their post-millennium worst. Again, all imho.

Shitloads of great “Void” bands too. If you have “witch”, “void”, or “abyss” in your band name, I’m getting the horn!

@markfrost.bsky.social ?
Just finished this. A little confused that the diary has entries *after* the day Laura is murdered (24/2/89). The last dated entry is Oct 31, 1989. And there are several subsequent entries, undated!
Any theories?

Haven’t done “93696” by Liturgy for so long. My goodness me!
How the bloody chuff did I miss this release from last year? Especially after Midwife put out one of my favourite albums of 2024 (“No Depression in Heaven”). This is lush, spectral, gauzy dream pop. Think Angelo Badalamenti meets Galaxie 500 at their most chilled and blissed
Nice!
I was guilty of this. 2 at the start of the 1980s. 12 when they ended. Said some pretty awful shit.
Nice. Is that available via the awarding institution?
Can I have some bell end blue, please, mate?
How so?

Stained Class is, erm, class!
Saw two new (to me) books on Miles I quite fancy getting. One on his mid- to late-60s group. And one on “Bitches Brew”.
Before or after Julian Donkeyboy?
Judas Priest Albums Ranking 1. British Steel (1980) 2. Screaming for Vengeance (1982) 3. Point of Entry (1981) 4. Sin After Sin (1977) 5. Stained Class (1978) 6. Killing Machine (1978) 7. Painkiller (1990) 8. Sad Wings of Destiny (1976) 9. Turbo (1986) 10. Defenders of the Faith (1984) 11. Rocka Rolla (1974) 12. Demolition (2001) 13. Ram It Down (1988) 14. Jugulator (1997)
So, after crunching some numbers, the votes are in on my favourite #JudasPriest albums so far, i.e., 1974-2001…
Hitting the first few #Halford albums next, before doing the second Halford-era of Priest.
… and yes this is *pure* White Zombie. But again, there’s light and shade. It’s got hooks. They’re having fun. Not just dull high-speed machismo, which so much of the cop-era Priest falls foul of. In fact, this sounds uncannily close to what Rob was doing with 2wo a few years earlier.
I mean, yes, it’s *pure* “Jar of Flies”-era Alice in Chains, but… I dig it!
They lighten up, start having a bit of *fun* (which was always a special part of the Halford-era). They soften up too, and stop trying to operate at ‘Painkiller’ levels of aggression all the time. Subsequently, I’d say those last five songs are among the strongest of their “cop” phase.
… something happens at the eighth track point. They stop trying to be “Priest”. They lean into their present strengths, shrugging off 27 years of legacy, and just enjoy being a band. And the results, on those final five songs are, pretty solid actually.
So, I didn’t know this one at all before today’s listen. It came out while I’d lost touch with my bestie, so I don’t have him playing me it, like I did with its predecessor. To say I had low expectations would be an understatement. And as it started, those expectations felt justified. But …
EXPOSED: How Viktor Orbán Bankrolled the Network Around Reform UK
As Hungary’s Prime Minister suffers a historic electoral defeat, Byline Times maps out how his government’s funding arm channelled hundreds of thousands of pounds into organisations at the heart of Britain’s hard right.
I’ll say a bit more after another listen. Not that anyone gives a shit
Like, I’d actively *listen* to the sound of that clip!
I’m surprised to say “Demolition.”
Hard disagree. But 🤝🏻
A painting of Lucifer tempting Jesus in the desert. Lucifer is INCREDIBLY naked, dirty, and lurid, rubbing up ons Jesus' robes from behind; his hand is open in offering and is placed in front of Jesus' crotch
I just re-found this painting, which was in a kid's bible I had growing up. I used to obssess over it, and I'm pretty sure seeing Lucifer here was the first time I thought a man was attractive? Over the years I'd think "it couldn't possibly be as horny as I remember it", but I mean come ON
