I know toxic work environments exist all over but I'm amazed by how consistently I hear about it in journalism.

And yet, you, @meredithshiner.com , and many others hanging on in the industry still have a core motivation that is passionate and dedicated to doing excellent journalism. That kind of drive is admirable and rare. Much respect.

Ugh, I remember your ARPA analysis now that you mention it. So it seems like few of the rest of the county legislators see this as a problem, or are at least unwilling to push back on the executive branch. Eerie parallels to our current federal government.

So uh, what stops a County Executive from using this ploy on other deals? Make a big public display on a feel-good project ahead of time, and now the legislature feels coerced to vote the "right" way.

Also, the optics are just so bad, throwing a celebratory press conference before the legislature actually approves the resolution.
