He’s not to blame, but his drinking then and now, is one reason why I think they’re so much better as friends and co-parents than as a couple. He wasn’t paying attention to how badly his wife was struggling, again I don’t blame him, it’s bloody hard for partners of addicts.

It took Chris ages to realise Alice is an actual alcoholic, and more ages to become supportive. I’m not blaming him, being an alcoholic’s partner is almost impossible, and in their marriage he was not a bad man, it just didn’t work. Alice rescued herself, but then only they can.

If I remember rightly, she started out working on one of those giant industrial cattle units? Wasn’t there mention of bringing one over to Ambridge at some point? I’ve heard she doesn’t anymore though. I’d imagine she speaks Hungarian by now, at least one would hope so!

I’m with you and @thecidershedpod.bsky.social on the mental health support issues and how they’re dealing with it. They did quite well with Ben for a bit, and he has at least mentioned having to go private for help, but it’s not good is it!! Not even mentioning these links! Really poor.

I do know how you feel. My partner had his colon removed and I felt very out of my depth. Wanting to be supportive, but not fussing, and definitely feeling useless! But as long as we do the best we can and it’s from love… I bet you were a support regardless.

Both reactions are entirely valid tbh. It would be a bit odd if one’s partner wasn’t at all anxious! For me the going on my own thing is a bit like Ruth’s “hospital time”, I go into a zone, and it’s so much easier without my partner. And I like to be there early, which he can’t do 😂
