Things that help calm the nervous system, quickly:

- Box breathing (in for 4, hold for 4, out for 4, hold for 4, repeat)
- Immerse your face in cold water (activates mammalian dive reflex)
- Humming (stimulates vagus nerve)
- Exercise (anything helps, outside even better)
- Impeachment and removal

SaveUSFS.org is live. This week we’re going after six major outdoor brands. Companies that have spoken out for public lands before. Companies that built their whole identity around wild places. We need them to speak out again.

Christina Koch’s facial profile backlit by Earth in the background, through the spacecraft window

So, to sum up, a couple of days ago Christina Koch became the first woman to see Earth in its entirety, and today – right now, in fact – she is the first woman to see the Moon up close, and the first woman to see the far side. 🥹

They are perfect: the hair, the makeup, the tights! Brianna and I were born one year apart, so I know exactly how I dressed in 1968… yes, I am that old…

I start by smiling at them and saying, I have teeny tiny veins! Please be gentle! I also ask that they use a "butterfly clip" which is less painful. Some places always use those.

The question that broke America fundamentally was ‘do all people deserve basic rights?’

This question was too hard for us. Too hard for our leadership. It still is.

So now all of our rights are in jeopardy.

It does take a long time. Mine does not quite have a gazillion steps, but there are a lot of them. "Easy" is not the word for lasagna.

A yellowed handbill headlined "TWELVE REASONS WHY WOMEN SHOULD VOTE"
1. BECAUSE those who obey the laws should help to choose those who make the laws.
2. BECAUSE laws affect women as much as men.
3. BECAUSE laws which affect WOMEN are now passed without consulting them.
4. BECAUSE laws affecting CHILDREN should include the woman's point of view as well as the man's.
5. BECAUSE laws affecting the HOME are voted on in every session of the Legislature.
6. BECAUSE women have experience which would be helpful to legislation.
7. BECAUSE to deprive women of the vote is to lower their position in common estimation.
8. BECAUSE having the vote would increase the sense of responsibility among women toward questions of public importance.
9. BECAUSE public spirited mothers make public spirited sons.
10. BECAUSE about 8,000,000 women in the United States are wage workers, and the conditions under which they work arre controlled by law.
11. BECAUSE the objections against their having the vote are based on prejudice, and not on reason.
12. BECAUSE to sum up all reasons in one--IT IS FOR THE COMMON GOOD OF ALL.

I'm researching the 1913 Women's Suffrage March & saw this "Twelve Reasons Why Women Should Vote" on the website of the National Women's History Museum. It's WILD that in 2026 some people would take our voting rights back or give them up! That we have to reassert all of this still! Ugh, ugh, sigh.

March 16, 2026 In early 1775, the people of Boston were bitterly divided.

Historian Heather Cox Richardson illuminates American Revolutionary history today, and my Outlander folks will find echoes and portents for the past several seasons. It's brilliant. open.substack.com/pub/heatherc...

in another room, he who does not watch Outlander but who worked for decades in children's books, said wonderingly, "was that Jamie reading Goodnight Moon in Scot?" I wanted the whole book. On repeat.

Light is the left hand of darkness
and darkness the right hand of light.
Two are one, life and death,
lying together like lovers in kemmer,
like hands joined together,
like the end and the way.
