Chile has reinforced its position as a global leader in ocean conservation, surpassing 50% protection of its marine waters. Once new protections for 360,000 km² of ocean around the Juan Fernández and Nazca-Desventuradas marine parks are implemented, this will bring the total ocean area fully protected by Chile to almost one million km².

Every day, over 3,000 people die from tuberculosis (TB), but new transformative, rapid diagnostic tools will help save lives, reduce transmission and cut costs. WHO urges the accelerated rollout of these tools, alongside strengthening people-centred TB care and building resilient health systems. Every dollar spent combating TB generates up to $43 in health and economic returns.

A fund conserving the watershed of the Tana – Kenya’s longest river – and improving farming methods is boosting livelihoods and water security. One interesting result shows a 41% decline in turbidity (cloudiness, indicating water quality), saving authorities £900,000 in water-treatment costs and showing how nature-based solutions can safeguard urban water systems against climate variability.

Towards gender equality in scientific organizations: assessment and recommendations - International Science Council Academies of science, medicine and engineering, along with international scientific unions, play an important role in shaping scientific agendas, recognizing scientific excellence, and advising policy-makers. In doing so, they influence whose expertise is visible and whose voices are heard in science. Persistent gender gaps within these organizations - relative to the share of women in the scientific workforce - raise questions about whether women scientists can participate, lead, and be recognized on equal terms.

We’re proud to provide editorial support for International Science Council (ISC)’s vital research, such as its recent report “Towards gender equality in scientific organizations”, showing how women remain underrepresented in institutions shaping science agendas.

Nature-Positive, Resilient Coastal Livelihoods through Integrated Multitrophic Aquaculture in Nigeria | Scriptoria Sustainable Development Solutions This World Wetlands Day, we’re shining a light on one of the planet’s most remarkable – and most threatened – wetland habitats: mangroves. Wetlands sustain millions of lives by providing clean water, supporting agriculture, protecting biodiversity, and ensuring food security and income for millions of people worldwide. Yet nearly 90% have been degraded over the past three centuries. Mangroves, in particular, are disappearing at an alarming rate, with 20–35% lost since 1980. At Scriptoria, we’re proud to support the Asia–Africa BlueTech Superhighway (AABS) project, implemented by...

We have lost 20–35% of global mangroves since 1980.

We're proud to work with WorldFish AABS, which among many projects is promoting climate‑smart aquaculture, like IMTA, to protect the Niger Delta – home to Africa’s largest mangrove forest 🌿🌊
