NASA might have been the coolest organization on planet earth — a real life/larger than life organization that the smartest people in the world respected, kids dreamed their whole life of working for, & even Hollywood couldn’t make larger than it already was.
So of course Trump ruined it in a year.

Universal Basic Income is the idea that could fix the economy overnight.
when i became a UBI advocate years ago, it was more of a theoretical thing to benefit marginalized and disabled folks. tho at this point, between robotics and ai, we're looking at very near term widespread layoffs, of entire sectors of the economy. it's becoming a bit urgent that we do something.
A pika sits on a mossy rock.
Tighter crop of the same pika, focusing on its head.
An even tighter crop, focusing more on the pika's eye.
An extremely tight crop of the pika's eye, emphasizing their reflection of an early morning mountain scene.
"Pat, why do you carry that ridiculous 600mm lens on long hikes?"
Buddy, I can see mountains reflected in the eyes of a trailside pika.
TEDx doesn’t want you to see this.
My talk is finally online. But I’m fuming—they edited out any “problematic” content! There was waaaay more action, and even some nudity.
So I’m posting what they cut. Enjoy, the check out the whole thing here: youtu.be/wc5QhMhoc9w?...

This guy has campaigned on UBI for ten years now. He knew exactly what was coming, and had a rational way forward that would keep big companies in check and let everyone reap the benefits of AI.
He was written off as a tech bro.

As I continue to experiment with AI tools to help me write, they *are* becoming amazingly good. Astoundingly so. And people who say that they're terrible have no idea what they're talking about.
But the thing I'm learning: they now are making me LESS efficient as a writer... (explanation below).
Silver lining:
Europe became a Union yesterday.

Film students need to see this.
I spent an afternoon with a friend and a camera in the park. No horse, no mountains, campfire or explosives. And yet, with a touch of AI VFX…

You can really tell how inefficient Adobe software is once you start running local Gen AI.
Really, Photoshop? You need ten minutes to crop a batch of 300 pics the same way?

This is everything a filmmaker can hope for. Thank you all!
As the writer/director of the first series in our new AI storytelling format PREVIOUSLY ON, I'm especially excited that we've moved just enough across the Uncanny Valley that viewers can truly focus on the story. That feels awesome!

Spent the last few weeks making a whole season of TV with AI - enjoy episode one!
Last week, our producer showed an upcoming project at a conference. It went well, but one criticism was “I can still tell which shots were AI.”
They were all AI.
Happy Tuesday!
AI bias is when a popular image generator knows the difference between a cypress and a Monterey cypress, but cannot create an older black woman in uniform.
Okay, seriously though: this is extremely troubling. Tech companies view you like this - just from looking at the photos you upload.
At this rate, I would prefer they know my actual personality, rather than averaging me out with billions of others.
This ain't it, guys.
As a writer, I wanted to understand my characters as deeply as possible. But now, AI can do it for me!
By simply viewing an image of my character, Google's Vision API fully analyzes his innermost beliefs! Perfect for digging into what drives a real human…/s

Part II of my curated list of AI movies with "beautiful" storytelling. "Beautiful" in the sense that the storytelling deserves recognition and applause because it is heartfelt, exciting, funny, dark, complex, or just plain beautiful.
I love AI work that uses the inherent weirdness to its advantage! Great stuff.
