I love Polvo's, too! It did my heart good to include it. And Sophie's got the best voice out there.

I loved reliving past times with Tim Hardy for this Radio Times piece. It's fair to say I had a really weird job for a while....

I thought I'd made a friend – then I found out she was a spy. Here's what I learned about real-world espionage "For two or three weeks, she was my office friend, and we chatted. She asked a lot of questions about my past, my background, how I ended up in England, just the kind of questions that people ask all ...

"It was not Ava Glass's job to count the dead children. Her job was to hold ministers and intelligence services to account for the toxic cloud drifting from the burning factory towards the village, and the armed terrorists on the run." Now THAT'S a lede.

Due to a scheduling mishap, when BBC Cambridge called this afternoon for an interview I thought was happening tomorrow, I was miles from home. I ducked down an alleyway by the bins to try and get a clearer signal. The GLAMOUR of being an author, my friends. It never stops.

It's US publication day for the most beautiful book to ever have one of my names on it. The Hiding Season is a twisty tale about what it's like to disappear. It's a story I've been dying to tell and I can't wait for you to read it. The Hiding Season publishes today in America, next week in the UK.

The Ipcress Files published in 1962, so he was closer to Fleming in time. And there are different types of sophistication. Each writer unique and memorable in their own way…

Len Deighton obituary: writer who redefined spy thrillers dies aged 97 The creator of Harry Palmer brought anti-establishment edge to the Sixties while mastering everything from military history to ‘gastrosexual’ cookery

When he was 11, Len Deighton watched police arrest his neighbour for spying, and that moment impacted the course of his life. He wrote tough, smart, working-class spies, very different from Fleming's Etonian crew, and made them seem real. One of the greats.

I'm not opposed to wildlife being on a banknote, but being the key image strikes me as odd. The idea that, after thousands of years of British history, we've reached a stage where none of the people who forged the country merit placement on currency is just… very 21st century.

A Mysterious Code Is Being Broadcast on Shortwave Radio. Is It Iran? The regime is overmatched militarily, but still has tools for returning fire.

On the day bombs started falling on Iran, a man’s voice began broadcasting an eerie message in Farsi on a shortwave radio frequency. “Tavajjoh! Tavajjoh!” (Attention! Attention!) followed by a string of numbers. Numbers stations are back, friends.
