I walked to the beach this morning, took the bus back. My foot felt fine, just nervous to overdo it. So far they're ok! 🎉✨
It was a beautiful day and it was really great to get out of the house and be around other people. ❤️🇺🇾❤️

All delivery service that isn't large items is motorcycles here. I saw a motorcycle with training wheels on it when I was driving through the rurals last month! 🏍️
We were worrying about our cat but she didn't have any obvious problems. She was just acting different, and so the vet came to my place to check on her. It's her back hurting her. 😥 She needs x-rays and blood work. Both of these will also be done at home! She thinks the reason is her age. 🐱
I hate this for Dr Madison and for those poor kids. The LGBTQ immigrants community is being supportive of her and some others who have come here either under very difficult circumstances, or who had their circumstances become difficult.
I had already emailed this school inquiring for my youngest when this happened. They responded to me after, and I replied about Dr Madison's firing and explained the school wouldn't be safe for my child so I don't need further information. She was understanding.
A fellow US-American emigrant couldn't escape American censorship here in Uruguay. When this happened to her, the rest of us found out about it quickly. pen.org/megan-pamela... #leavingtheus
My ADHD is very bad lately. Having a hard time with work, like for the first time in my life. Work was always where I felt competent and appreciated. Now I just feel appreciated. (Because my work mates are the best.) I'm hoping this will pass soon.
I pay monthly for free emergency care, like about 15 US dollars/month per person. I did have to buy the antibiotic eye drops for 1 dollar. So it was essentially free and they treated us with kindness and skill. 🇺🇾
-Youngest is totally fine- however last week, they had an emergency and I had to bring them to the ER in the evening to see an on-call ophthalmologist and while we did have to wait, the care was fantastic. And essentially free.
Using the online auction method of getting my place furnished for the first time. 5 minutes to go before I get this dresser for youngest. 🤞🏻
Luckily I've met people well versed in this process who are helping me push through my doubts!
My guitar friend I met randomly on the bus several months ago is going back to the US tomorrow. She came over today for another session and I'm just feeling sad. Hopefully she'll return in June, but it just made me realize how important even the smallest of music communities can be so important.

One thing we are not, down here, is alone. #leavingtheus
Street scene from the passenger seat of a taxi. Lots of trees
I took this one day after the cab driver pointed out how beautiful everything was. ❤️
In case anyone is wondering, Uruguay has not been immune to AI trash content littering shopping apps with fake pictures. I will say though that most of my bad encounters with it have been very US-American.
There's so much unknown. We are counting on the outcome of the Orr case and if that goes sideways, then hopefully it only applies to passports going forward. Failing that, administrative ineptitude will have to save us.
With the Orr case looming and just the general tenor of gender policing in the US now, it has been tricky thinking about how, if we ever needed to go back to the US, we would be best prepared for such a thing. Much thanks to @esillecklarue.bsky.social for talking us through our options.
I've noticed fewer people here seem to ask me why we would leave the US.
We're really glad to be here!

It's hard missing your family and watching your country go from a flawed democracy to one invested in cruelty, historic and scientific erasure, destruction, and senseless threats, killings, and wars.
Now we are pretty settled, healing, learning, building community. We're connected to healthcare, new friends, music outlets, and the housing we need.
A year ago now, we were in the air on the way here. We were so hopeful and relieved to be flying out of the US!

Look at all my habaneros
Kind of rainy definitely windy today. Fall is coming. 🍂
You're free to speak, I'm free to think you're a hateful person that I can't get far enough away from.
I'm going to love and appreciate this place and heal myself and my kiddos and have a nice time. 🤸🏻♀️
❤️🇺🇾❤️
Once she realized she had made a fool of herself in front of our service provider (who's Uruguayan), she started on about free speech, lol. Sure, lady. You're free to use your speech to show everyone how you want this peaceful country colonized and then expect kisses and rainbows.
Yesterday I came across that type of American that we came here to get away from. I figured it would happen at some point. So entitled and just intent on harassing me, asking personal questions, etc. I played it cool and I'm ok but it was not great.

We had a great time showing my oldest around. Some pics of what we saw. We went to Reserva del Flores y Fauna in Piriápolis and the other picture is from hotel argentino.
I'm on my way to pick up my oldest child from MVD, kicking off some vacation time for me!
The bus to the airport is much nicer than the regular buses. The air feels good and I am just so excited to see him and show him around. ❤️🤸🏻♀️🇺🇾
