A big(oted) policy required us to pull out the big dogs/names.

3 weeks ago 10 4 0 0

you’re telling me that sex/genetic testing is…

❌ not supported by science (see andrew sinclair)
❌ not ethically justified (see human rights orgs and nude parades)
💰 expensive (see chromosome test costs, etc)

but they’re gonna do it anyway.

if anything, this will discourage sports participation.

I just have to say… sociology is *not* a radical discipline.

Great to see this live soon after the IOC announcement. It’s part of a longer history of scientific testing being inappropriately used to help justify ideologies about gender, bodies, and ability. I wrote a book >10 years ago about it, and the pattern continues and reflects contemporary politics.

if you want to know the history of this kind of policy, I made a podcast two years ago that explained why these tests make no sense, how they were already used and eventually abandoned by the IOC in the 80's and 90's, and the devastating impacts they have on real athletes: www.tested-podcast.com

This is transphobic, misogynistic, anti-feminist, discriminatory against women with DSD, and thoroughly bad science. A licence for abuse.

Assertions like “the most accurate and least intrusive way currently available to screen for biological sex is by screening for the SRY Gene” and that “based on IF experience, genetic screening for sex does not create significant problems in practice” are both categorical lies.

The IOC has just formally unleashed waves of additional harm in the name of sporting 'fairness.'

Sport can never justify the dehumanization this ruling requires.

REVIEW AND DEVELOPMENTS
Review of and Developments in Science
The Working Group reviewed the state of the science, including developments since 2021, and reached
consensus that:
i. Male sex (as defined in Schedule 1) confers performance advantage in all sports and events that
rely on strength, power, and/or endurance;
ii. To protect fairness in such sports and events, as well as safety particularly in contact sports (e.g.
combat, collision, projectile sports), it is necessary and adequate to base eligibility for competition
on biological sex; and
iii. The most accurate and least intrusive way currently available to screen for biological sex is by
screening for the SRY Gene, which is a segment of DNA that is almost always on the Ychromosome, initiates Male sex development in utero, and signals the presence of
testes/testicles.

The (heinous) International Olympic Committee has just (fucking) formally banned trans participation in sport.

US President Donald Trump says he doesn’t care if Iran participates in the World Cup or not.

“I think Iran is a very badly defeated country. They’re running on fumes,” Trump told the American news site Politico on Tuesday.

The US and Israel launched attacks on Iran on Saturday that have killed at least 1,045 people, including its Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and sparked a regional conflict that has spread to 12 countries.

Tehran responded by launching waves of missiles and drones at Israel and towards several military bases in the Middle East where US forces operate.

Following the escalations, Iran’s spot at the World Cup has come under question, and officials from the Iranian football federation and FIFA have been noncommittal on the world’s 20th-ranked football nation’s participation.

“After this attack, we cannot be expected to look forward to the World Cup with hope,” Mehdi Taj, president of the Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran (FFIRI), told local sports portal Varzesh3 on Sunday.

Everything about this absolutely stinks. The *aggressor* should be banned, not the victim.

I have a case study today for my lecture on governance & the Olympics, where “Acirema” launched military strikes on/started a war with “Persiya,” six days after an Olympics ended. I’m asking students what sanctions the IOC should issue (on Acirema).

This episode was key in developing this activity.

Literally, "abolishing."

Florida bill to arm college professors, staff faces opposition Florida students and faculty oppose a bill allowing college professors to carry concealed weapons on campus, citing safety concerns.

Happy (almost) one-year anniversary of the FSU school shooting, and yet lawmakers and politicians seem to have conveniently forgotten (or still don’t care???) about actually making schools safer.

The number is now 40. Imagine the response to a mass shooting that killed 40 kids at school.

But this is an act of self-defence.

I don’t know what discursive equivalent equivalent there is for “trans” though, so the only kind of resistance I can think of is to reject their money, walk away, and publicly talk about it. But I’m always open to suggestions and ideas!!
