Gov. JB Pritzker’s ambitious housing plan for Illinois: More four-flats, looser rules A cornerstone initiative from Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker would loosen zoning restrictions for multiunit buildings, drawing excitement from housing advocates but concerns from local officials.

The housing crisis is echoing across the nation.

Our BUILD plan is one of the most comprehensive to tackle it — making it easier, faster, and more effective to build homes here.

AHIL Lead Steffany on a panel with Governor Pritzker

The rent is too damn high. True or false?

Today at the City Club of Chicago, Governor Pritzker asked this very question and our Lead Steffany was on the panel to answer: TRUE.

We are grateful to have a seat at the table fighting for housing affordability in Illinois. 🏘️

Thank you, Governor Pritzker, for taking a moment to meet with our members at Housing Lobby Day in Springfield and for fighting to get the BUILD plan passed. 🏘️

Illinois has a housing shortage. The BUILD plan is how we start to fix it. Let’s get these bills across the finish line.

🚨 It’s Housing Lobby Day! 🚨

Today, we woke up, hopped on Amtrak, and made the trek down to Springfield to meet directly with our elected officials. 🤝

We’re making sure legislators hear loud and clear that abundant, affordable housing is a top priority for Illinois residents. 🏘️

Happy Fair Housing Anniversary ✊

The Fair Housing Act made housing discrimination illegal 🏠
But shortages and exclusionary policies still limit access.

YIMBYs are continuing the work, pushing for more homes and more equitable communities.

City program wants to bring more families to the South Side and West Side one vacant lot at a time Chicago's Missing Middle Infill Housing program has created 300 new housing units, and developers say the city initiative is crucial to bringing people back to the area after decades of disinvestment.

Kai Bandele's first Chicago home was a two-flat on the West Side. It helped her save enough to buy her own home on the South Side.

Now, via Chicago’s Missing Middle Program, she’s building four two-flats in West Garfield Park so other families can do the same.

NEW: I wrote about Gov. JB Pritzker’s ambitious, abundance-coded housing plan. 4 units on basically any standard size Chicago residential lot? ADUs? Looser parking minimums? potentially yes, in our backyard >> www.chicagotribune.com/2026/04/12/j...

Housing near public transit encourages car-free living A Bucktown resident is perplexed by neighbors who think housing near a Blue Line stop will bring more cars. Also, the Illini men's basketball team, Trump and what spring break was like for teens back…

“When we build housing near a train, with less parking, we encourage a different kind of resident to move in: someone who doesn’t own a car, or someone who’s ready to finally get rid of the car he or she doesn’t want anymore.” 🏘️
