My understanding is it will have an SWF target, but he‘s really wanting to modernize by having proper WebGL and Video exports.
Just like anything you do in life, you have to decide how much you actually care about what a bunch of random people on the internet are gonna say.
I find no matter what you do, you’re gonna fail some purity test so if something genuinely helps you, just do it.
Not really any major barriers. It’s like any tool. You have to know how it works, what it’s good at, and what it’s bad at. When it’s useful, and when it just gets in the way.
The stigma is the only reason people who use it for practical things tend to do it in secret.
Everyone is entitled to feel how they feel about AI.
I've never been one of those guys that sees the world in black and white, and never been big on joining purity cults.
I have found it very useful in my job, while also hating what it's doing to other creative sectors.
I have much respect for anyone out there grinding without it. But we all know more people use it than just the annoying vibe code bros, and it's helping a lot of little guys keep up with what the big boys are doing so we're not left behind.
Most of us are using it to streamline our existing workflows, rather than completely do the job for us.
I don't have to go through a list of google results, or dig through a manual anymore. I can get an answer, in seconds and if it looks good it's implemented where I want to review.
I do love that AI has created a whole new job type of "Slop repair programmer".
You see a LOT of retarded companies that think AI is a substitute for humans fire people they have to hire back at twice their old rate, and that makes me happy.
Well you better quit using 90% of the internet my dude. We're all using AI tools these days.
Programming patterns are all pretty academic and public. It's not the same thing as stealing art and literature and passing it off as creation. Plus we were already copy pasting public code for decades.
These AI tools are largely letting us lay out entire processes and design documents in English, but we still need to know the fundamentals, and we have to review and test anything it generates.
I don't think the average Joe know how many career programmers have adopted coding agents in their workflow. We don't talk about it much because we also hate the AI slop vibers who think they can just prompt fully functional products into existence with no experience.
There's a huge difference in using AI as an assistive tool and just vibe coding slop.
He's definitely putting in the work and research.
He's largely using AI to optimize the old process of googling a concept, reading 30 posts on reddit and stackoverflow, identifying solutions to a problem, etc...
P-bot hand writes every birthday message on a papyrus scroll, then G-bot scans it, converts it to computer code and sends it in an email.
The NG office has a secret basement full of these scrolls.
Yes, everyone should look into playing my cool game 😅
Every year since Ruffle.rs was launched, Newgrounds.com hosts a game jam where people make NEW games using Adobe Flash.
Here's one I made with some friends a few jams ago:

It even works on cell phones, which the original Flash could not do!
Got another tutorial up for people interested in doing a #FlashForward game on @Newgrounds.
This time it's how to use NewgroundsIO and seeded RNG to create procedural daily challenges!
(You can apply the concept to non Flash games pretty easily too)

It will definitely be open-source once it gets fleshed out a bit more.
I, personally, consider Bill to be quite trustworthy. I've known him for a long time. He's from the same oldschool Newgrounds stock we are, so Flash is in his blood.
Spread the word, an ACTUAL replacement for Flash is on the horizon! Go support this project NOW!!!!!!!!

I'm the opposite. I was never into the franchise to begin with, but when I heard it described as being like Dragon Quest Builders, my interest was piqued. Sandbox games are my kryptonite.
We got his ass

A dead bug
If anyone started using those NewgroundsIO libraries I just published/updated, there were a few bugs that just got patched.
The GitHub pages for both AS2 and AS3 have a new build available, and the README has a section explaining how to update it.
That's probably more true for today's kids who don't know how half the tech they use even works.
My generation? We'd have gotten around that in minutes using VMs or guest accounts or some other easy workaround lol.
Grab the library at github.com/PsychoGoldfi...
Making an ActionScript 2.0 game for @newgrounds.com?
The Newgrounds.io library got a big update!
Lots of bug fixes, updated architecture, and a brand new component for managing Cloud Saves!
It also has the class library available as a compiled clip for faster publishing!
Its basically just asking for a birthdate in you user profile and trusting you not to lie. Not much to abuse there, and apps don’t need to scrape any other data than “what is user’s” age.
Yeah I’d take this over letting any corporations mine our data. It’s just dumb for being completely ineffective lol.
If you frame it as putting the responsibility on parents, and this is a tool they must have access to, that would make the most sense to me.
California may have passed the dumbest age verification law ever.
It says the operating system has to collect your age during account setup and provide an api for apps to get your age. But you don’t do any scans, you just self report your age.
You know, the way adult sites already work…
