Monkey Man (2024). Slick revenge thriller where a young Indian man tears through a city's elite. A fine actor, Patel is now also a promising director. Very much a first film, but I'm curious to see where he goes next.

a man in a blue sweater is reading a book called sensible chuckle Alt: Gif of a man flipping through a magazine labeled "Sensible Chuckle" and reacting with a mild chuckle to what he reads there.

I liked WHISTLE overall, especially for the charming romance between Dafne Keen and Sophie Nelisse at the center of it, but I also appreciated the chuckle I got from seeing the sign establishing that a gory scene involving death by machinery was taking place at the Verhoeven steel mill.

And Peter Stormare's death is basically exactly how Hammond bites it at the end of the original novel.

Mauve stands in front of a black background with mushrooms printed over it wearing black lipstick and a pair of black panties with white trim. She raises her arms over her head and faces the viewer's right. She smiles and bites her bottom lip. Her glasses are visible at the top of the frame.

I liked Rise a lot, but I can't help but agree with all your points.

I mean, it did give us a better final monster than the 2013 film, but it wasn't really unique aside from that.

Melt all the cybertrucks down & do something useful with the metal. I don’t care! Get them off the road so nobody has to see them!

That's cool. By the way, Microsoft is the target of an international boycott for their role in the Palestinian genocide.

Welp. I put on THE WHISTLE and, thanks to THE YETI having been a bit quiet I had the volume up a bit louder than usual.

The very first shot of THE WHISTLE is a ref blowing one, and Jonesy was RUDELY AWAKENED by it. Luckily, she has accepted pets as an apology.

Watching THE YETI (2026) and it is, amusingly, the second killer yeti movie I have seen with just "Yeti" in the title that suggests the title monster is a Gigantopithecus.

Also, in both cases, the yeti design looks nothing like any kind of ape, much less a huge orangutan-like one.

The Jackson estate can't hide Leaving Neverland from those who've already seen it A suppressive legal battle turned the moving Sundance documentary Leaving Neverland into a ghost haunting the Michael Jackson biopic.

The only film about Michael Jackson you need is the one his estate is hiding from you.

"We wanted to flex and show Downey-Doom in the Fantastic Four cameo without showing his face and not enough of you saw that movie and/or realized that was him so now we're scrambling to get that info across and yeah we could just put it in the new one but we're kinda hurting for cash here, so."

Your regular reminder that cops don't actually justify their existence or enormous budgets by solving much crime.

Approximately 11% of all serious crimes result in an arrest, and about 2% end in a conviction.

And then there's this...

I think an answer to the question we deserve to hear from the president is “does the world deserve to keep going after you die?” Because I suspect I know what the answer is and I suspect most of us would not like it.

Say what you will about Lucas continuing to mess with the original Star Wars trilogy, at least he wasn't doing it at the behest of the studio to help sell a new movie.

Even though the trailer wasn't perfect, I was still interested in this one...until I learned there really isn't a mummy in it at all.

Like, come on, man. Don't sell me a mummy movie if you just wanted to make a possession story.
