Leo’s finger twitched. He couldn’t fall asleep. Falling asleep would be really bad, because… Because… He couldn’t fall asleep. He couldn’t really open his eyes any more than a slit, but it wasn’t like there was much to see. All around, all there was were bricks and the brightness coming from the oven, making the world look wavy and unfocused. Or maybe that was just him and his dehydration. Heh… He’d fought anything from purple dragons, to ninjas, to robots and much more. He was defeated by the Shredder and didn’t let that beat him. He was stabbed by Karai and still made a comeback, scar and all. He went into other dimensions and always returned. And this was how he would perish? From a furnace, cooking him alive just as much as he’d cooked the scrap metal he’d used to forge his own swords? Shell, he didn’t even know if anyone else was alive. Was he failing them? Or would it be another one of those situations he was supposed to take as it went and say that he did all that he could? He didn’t swear often in his life, but fuck all that. He didn’t want to fail anyone ever again. He’d returned stronger from his travels with the idea that he would do all that he could, and so far, it had kept his family alive. So far.

She stretched herself up, early, too early in the morning. It was still quiet in the lair, everyone else still sleeping, but she was feeling restless. Nearing the end of her ninth month, all she’d been doing in the last few weeks had been quite stationary. She couldn’t really complain about it, since it had been quite entertaining. Her new mentally stimulating toys had done wonders to her mood and her independence, but they were also all things that only demanded her to sit on her butt all day long. She needed to do something more active. There was a pinch against her back that was slowly trickling down her shell, as if pushing against a nerve and reverberating across her shaky limbs. She walked around her room for a bit before making her way outside. She felt like leaving for a long walk, maybe finding something or other further from here, but she knew it was unsafe to leave the lair, and she still wasn’t even really sure how. She stopped by the stairs. The others couldn’t really carry her anymore, she was too heavy and large for them, so, gripping the railing with both hands, she carefully climbed down the stairs, one by one. The lair felt quite stuffy and small today, but she wasn’t sure why. The others woke up through the morning with curiosity all over their faces. They found her opening each and every room of the first floor, her feet flapping against the floor with each rapid step. They shared a glance with each other. “Uh, hey Mama. You’re up early.” Mikey started. “What’s she doin’?” Raph wondered. “I’m not sure…” Don replied. “Mama, don’t you want to go eat?” They shared another, more worried look at her lack of reaction. “Food? Mama, food?” Mikey insisted. She finally turned her head, noticing them for the first time. How long had they been there, watching her? They needed to… She needed… Something…

“Well, thanks for the hospitality, Baxter, but I’m afraid we gotta bounce now.” Mikey told him. “I’ll have to give this place a bad review! I didn’t even get a free drink while sunbathing! Talk about bad customer service. One star.” “Hmm, interesting.” Baxter replied, suddenly sounding way too calm and collected. “And you’ll just leave half of your team behind?” Shoot. Mikey totally forgot Don and Leo were still stuck somewhere around. “No! It's crazy how little we can see the shell's lines of the 03 turtles in the later seasons' designs compared to the first 4. It's one of the things I don't like about those new designs, the lines are just more vibrant instead of darker and it's a little weird.

Don looked around, his limbs trembling and leaking blood all over the grated floor. He carefully lowered his stance, looking at the slim entrances where the shurikens had been shooting out from. Until now. He grinned. “Heh, and this is how it’s done.” He bragged. His shell had a new cut when the shurikens had bounced against it, but he’d finally managed to destroy not only the cameras around, but also the transistor leading to the conveyor belts under the grid by his feet. Which meant the machine tossing the shurikens was still operational, but the shurikens weren’t making their way to it anymore, instead stuck on the inoperational conveyor belt. “Now, how do I get out of here…?” He crouched, grabbing a stray shuriken that hadn’t fallen through the grid yet. He stood back up, using the slim holes on the wall to try and reach the broken camera above him. It was definitely not recording anymore, but perhaps… Well, he wasn’t called a genius for nothing after all.
