We had a great talk at Green Drinks last night by Kieran Cunnane from Galway Energy Co Operative, who shared insights about how to access renewable energy and make homes more efficient.

Amazing result.
Irish lawyers have long carried a particular instinct: that power should answer to law, wherever it is exercised.
It was striking to see that tradition alive and well in the room on the night.
Grateful to LILA for the platform, and for the extraordinary generosity shown in support of GLAN’s work.
It can force uncomfortable questions
It can expose connections that would otherwise remain hidden.
It can shift the terrain in favour of those who have the least access to it
And at moments like this, when international norms are under strain & might is right, that kind of friction matters
At GLAN, we try to close that gap through innovative means.
Not because we think the law is a perfect tool. It isn’t. It has often travelled alongside power.
But used strategically, persistently, and sometimes creatively, it can still do something important: it can create friction.
Power operates transnationally. Accountability, far less so.
And that creates a gap.
A gap between harm and responsibility.
Between those affected and those who decide.
Between what the law promises and what it delivers.
can the law meaningfully hold power to account across borders?
It’s a question that feels increasingly urgent.
Because many of the most serious harms today - from climate breakdown to corporate abuse to conflict - are shaped by decisions taken far from where their impacts are felt.
Thank you to the London Irish Lawyers Association for the invitation to speak at their annual dinner.
I returned to a question that has echoed through the work of Irish lawyers for centuries — from Edmund Burke's legal actions against the East India Company onwards:
Don't forget, its our reliance on fossil fuels that green lights the horror that the West inflicts on the people of the Middle East (West Asia).

Not Gaza 2025, but Jaffa 1948, after the Nakba
The Manshiya quarter of Jaffa was destroyed in a series of bombardments led by the Irgun during the 1948 Nakba in order to drive out its Palestinians inhabitants

Yesterday the High Court ruled it was for Parliament to scrutintise UK Gov's supply of Israel with warplane parts. Now the Gov can't hide behind "its for the courts", they must reveal their Gaza genocide assessment & stop withholding info on targeting of civilians news.sky.com/story/govern...
🚨 Monday @ 10.30am we will have a decision! Together with @alhaq_org we challenged UK weapons exports to Israel which are being used to commit atrocity crimes in Gaza. Stay tuned.
We forced the UK gov to reveal it's assessment that Israel is not committed to complying with int'l law. The UK now argues that continuing to supply Israel's war planes is key to maintaining "international peace & security".
On Tuesday we intend to challenge this absurdity.
Israeli warplanes rely on international supply chains. 15% of the F35 jet is sourced from the UK & exports continue
On May 12 we will be in the High Court in London with Al Haq challenging these transfers. The UK Gov could end their complicity now but are opting to enable genocide
9/ GLAN’s Director, @gocuinn.bsky.social said: "Sa'ar is directly linked to mass death, destruction, and suffering in Palestine. The UK government must stop arresting those who speak out or protest against genocide and start arresting those who are responsible." #EndIsraeliImpunity
We are working to stop involvement of economic service providers, like the London Metal Exchange in serious human rights and environmental harms. #westpapua
To be pro-humanity, pro-international law and anti-double standards now makes you ready for deportation and cancellation in the eyes of the Trump regime. #Palestine
In its final days, the Biden administration is pushing an $8 billion arms deal to Israel, right as:
–Human Rights Watch & Amnesty say Israel is committing genocide
–IDF kills several journalists; babies freeze to death
–IDF attacks last hospitals in northern Gaza, detains hospital director
“They’re the new #Caribbean pirates. They want to take our land.”
The Times reports on exploitation of #Barbuda by billionaire colonial-style developers, & the strong community resistance

Israel's targeting of the Irish gov has nothing to do with anti-Semitism nor distraction. Others have recognized Palestine & intervened in the ICJ case. Whats different? The Irish gov will pass the Occupied Territories Bill banning goods & services from illegal settlements. Israel is price tagging.
In defiant criticism of the decision, Ireland's PM @simonharrisireland.bsky.social said: “You know what I think is reprehensible? Killing children ... You know what I think is reprehensible? People being left to starve & humanitarian aid not flowing.” www.irishtimes.com/politics/202...
‘Entire families were crushed in Gaza by Israeli airstrikes. Not even memories remain’ - mass atrocities including #genocide & yet it continues - #BDS now; new #ICC arrest warrants now. With the UNSC inactive due to US veto other blocks of states must apply sanctions.

My latest with Heidi Matthews and Priya Gupta on the role of universities during this moment of genocide. We critique the censorship of anti-genocide protest and critique in Western universities and the role they have sadly played in furthering the scholaticide

1 million children are being starved & bombed in Gaza.
The UK is doing everything it can to continue to supply warplanes sold to Israel. We have just forced them to review this & Amnesty's report adds pressure
David Lammy, don't fight this in court, end all arms exports now.
Will be on @aljazeeraenglish.bsky.social at 2125 GMT to discuss the UK's abject failure on Palestine - this being the latest. The UK continues to treat Gaza as a humanitarian crisis not as one of atrocities, war crimes & genocide www.gov.uk/government/n...
