I think you're right, there's a spectrum. Our podcast (@techdiffgp.bsky.social) has raw production and we very often play and playtest new systems, so we might be good for teaching things. but we're not deliberately trying to be a teaching/demo show.
I've definitely seen that kind of a setup for a Tekken game, but I couldn't tell you when or where. Would have been ten or fifteen years ago. All I can tell you is you're not crazy!
I was there, and it's great!
The rules as written for an RPG are like the sheet music as written for a song. Some musical types hew closer to the written score than others (classical vs. jazz for example), but even in the "tighter" forms, there's still a ton of interpretation in a performance beyond the written page.
It doesn't understand how longitude works, either:
Hype! I like how you can do stuff as a pilot outside of your mech, too.
Ruin a book by adding "Tom Clancy's" to the title
Tom Clancy's Beloved
I don't think I really appreciated it at the time, but in retrospect, I think that for me, the best thing about being a baby was not having to go to work.
I've finally released the first full edition of Fear and Panic! This is the most focused, streamlined version of a d100 horror system I could build, based on countless hours of playtesting and experience as a horror GM.

Fun AI fact of the day: Google doesn't know how longitude works.

Our friends are staring up a sweet new #TTRPG podcast! Our very own @tdtlc.bsky.social joins in on this intro episode! Check it out, it's a super cool concept!
Likewise! And thanks for the gin!
@pretendingpod.bsky.social is good! Or at very least, significantly better than Malort coffee.
Do you know some specific times when you'll be at the booth?
Alas! Hopefully next time!
I'll do my best to come by!
Is Gar going to be there this year? If so, I could bring a couple books for him to sign...
@trinite.bsky.social will be heading to Gen Con this week! He'll be running his #CallofCthulhu Civil War scenario "We Cannot Hallow This Ground" on Thursday, and hanging around at the #DeltaGreen, #RedMarkets, and #RPPR events! If you follow us, come say hi!
New One-Shot Episode! And it's a new game for us: I Have the High Ground! One-on-one dueling wits with no GM, courtesy of @jessfrom.online / @jumpgategames.itch.io !
That's a really good point. What happens immediately after the conversation described in the Mothership example? The GM just...decides whether or not the monster finds the PC. Based presumably on the quality of the conversation, but is that going to make the player feel better if they get eaten?
