In Jan 2024, Die „Letzte Generation“ staged a climate protest in Leipzig where they sat on toy tractors so they'd be treated the same as these other protestors

AI & Us - Recap - EcoCounts Here are all the notes, links and resources we discussed at AI and Us in March, and a recap of the most important points from Maxime.

Just spent an hour writing a recap on an event, and found that Eventbrite is only going to send it to 8 people out of the 20 who signed up 🤯 so I'll post it here as well. Actually there are some v. useful links about AI in it. ecocounts.community/ai-us-recap/

Climate Impact of LNG under Carbon Accounts - Ecocore Information about CO2 emissions in 2024 is for the most part as invisible as the gas itself. When Europe decided to import American LNG (Liquified Natural

I might not have cited it academically, but it was definitely useful! ecocore.org/climate-impa... - burning a kilo of CH4 produces 0.8kg of CO2, but burning a kilo of LNG produces 4.1kg 🤯 (and leaks huge amounts of CH4 on the way)

Easter Eggs & Cocoa - EcoCounts Easter brings endless chocolate choices, but our Easter eggs have a bigger story behind them. Cocoa is increasingly under pressure from climate change, and

ecocounts.community/easter-eggs-... Are you feeling wealthy enough to afford a real chocolate Easter Egg? Price have surged by 50%+ and cocoa content has plummeted.

It would be nice if the politicians would oblige. And I would say the energy pricing mechanism has to completely change. I wrote an article on it a while back and nothing has changed since then, despite an apparently willing govt ecocore.org/why-cheap-wi...

"All they have to do" is actually completely change the UK primary energy market - it would probably take an act of parliament although don't quote me on that. However if you remember, taxes do not pay for public spending, contrary to popular belief, so the govt has much more leeway than it thinks.

And batteries. Or whatever solution can store energy or conserve energy at the time and place. People freak out about Tesla becoming an approved UK energy provider but they know what they're doing.

But this is only for grid power. There are millions like me sadly stuck with gas boilers and gas hobs in tenancies that we have no control over. When the whole lot moves across to leccy, the demand will be that much higher, plus of course people using AI to generate photos and videos.

So why why why why why can't we sort out energy prices? We know exactly what the problem is and why electricity is so expensive, so why don't we change it?

No, it'll be in space. Massive solar arrays gathering gigawatts of energy. Potentially doubling as geo-engineering parasols to lower inbound radiation to a cooking planet. China, Russia, EU and US along with a plethora of tech bros corporates, all totally paranoid of each other. Fireworks guaranteed

Why long-term climate choices are hard to make – a philosopher explains Many philosophers have noticed the similarities between environmental damage and the puzzle of the self-torturer.

I'd love to have a conversation with this philosopher. Is he a doomer? In fact, I'd love to have a conversation with Daniel Kahneman, who famously said that climate change is the perfect storm that the human mind just can't deal with.

I think I need an induction hob. I've been meaning to replace that gas hob for years, hoping the landlord would do it. But why wait for that.

Week no in year (with only one digit, it actually has to be some kind of compound hexadecimal, like week 45 would be a Greek character)
4 digit hour (e.g. 02PM)
3 digit year (026)

Must be some kind of deliberate attempt to screw up AI spiders by the OP?

There is also a bit of hole in Trump's theological machinations - we have to get close to losing Armageddon, the Beast has to get close to winning, and then Jesus will come again to save us. Happy to be corrected by any theologians out there.
