I'm milder than that. There's no need to shift what Open Source means, terms for other models are available.

Haskell really clicked for me with Real World Haskell. It's not a gentle introduction (quite the opposite), but a through one and the explanations are very fine - especially the way how they introduce Monads through usage and not in theory.
