I remember reading the manga back in uni & being enchanted by the endearing characters and a v aesthetic magic system (not a surprise given Shirahama graduated in design), reread it during the pandemic and now tempted to learn Japanese so I can do another reread and catch up with the latest issue!

Got very excited to learn that WITCH HAT ATELIER is finally getting an anime adaptation. The first three episodes are brilliant, wondrously painted with a Ghibli-esque touch, and if they do it right, I'm sure this will go down as one of the best fantasy anime shows ever made.

Picked up the book because I got a lil attached to Rocky and I'm pleasantly surprised by all the science-y bits!

And if any editors out there want to give this book a paper home in N. America or elsewhere beyond S. Asia, well, you know what to do. THE LAST DRAGONERS OF BOWBAZAR won a British Fantasy Award, a Subjective Chaos Kind of Award, & was nominated for the Locus Awards.

THE LAST DRAGONERS OF BOWBAZAR limited ed N. American hardcover is officially out of print, & no longer available. My BFA-winning book about a family of interreal refugees in 90s/00s Calcutta is still available as an ebook, & a paperback in S. Asia. Shares appreciated, reads even more so:

I'm I reading this correctly?

It's been ages since I went to the movies, but I think Project Hail Mary was decent fun, though I enjoyed The Martian wayyy more and had to suspend my disbelief at how quickly the stranded human and alien learned to communicate.

The solution in question being JUST WRITE IT YOURSELF FOR GOD'S SAKE, YOU'RE A HUMAN, YOU HAVE THE GIFT OF LIFE AND THOUGHT AND FEELING, USE YOUR HUMAN MIND AND HANDS AND IMAGINATION, DON'T LET THEM ATROPHY, DON'T OUTSOURCE THEM TO A MACHINE, STRIVE TO TRY AND FAIL AND LEARN AND BETTER YOURSELF

Increasingly of the opinion that the correct answer to the Trolley Problem is "fuck you, why are you so fixated on finding reasons to justify killing people?"

This is the same kind of flimsy argument as "patriarchy harms men too" like, sure, but we shouldn't let such a broad statement exist without acknowledging the primary targets and primary harm being done. The point of "the poor little imperial soldier is being exploited" is to distract us.

As it's Hugo time, I wanted to talk about a category I care about, and which I think could do with a bit of extra love when it comes to nomination time - it's best fan writer!

(this is gonna be a thread of me doing hype, which I'm bad at, but that is much deserved by all here linked, pls be nice)
