Child care that ends at 3 p.m. doesn't work for many working families. So we're changing it.
This fall, our 2-K program will pilot year-round care for 2-year-olds, with a full 10-hour day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Because truly "universal" child care matches the reality of working people's lives.
The new Yesler Way protected bike lane is OPEN.
This is a new protected connection for people biking and scooting between the Waterfront and Seattle Ferry Terminal to Seattle's downtown bike network.
Our crews sent us some photos.

We have our first look at potential shared street signage in Seattle, from SDOT's plan for Pike Place after the legislation implementing SB 5595 is approved by the city council.
[FOR DISCUSSION ONLY]
NEW: The Pike Place PDA reports foot traffic was up 5.4% in 2025 (first year of the pedestrianization pilot) over 2024, 8.5% over 2023.🚶🏼♀️📈
They say 2025 was "the strongest year ever for percent rent" (a sales metric based on their tenants income). Overall they were $4.7 million in the black.💲📈
This is cool: @mayorofseattle.bsky.social just shared a form for Seattle residents, workers, and fans to nominate City employees who deserve recognition for their service. ⭐

A new proposal from Rep. Berg ensures significant money goes to Washington families and small businesses.
I’m pleased that a policy close to my heart is included: Free school lunch and breakfast for all Washington students.

Some 6-7 year old boy on the bus from #Bellevue into #Seattle JUST found out he’s not going to school (which would have started an hour ago, #lol) today, and he is CHUFFED 😆
😮 eyes wide, mouth open, everything.
His LITTLE sister is rolling her eyes. She’s known for hours 🤣

Cool! I’ve been using Transit more for buses but I didn’t even realize it had these options

Reminder public restrooms can be really cool + inviting + built into the natural surroundings
A strange but true finding about NYC congestion pricing:
Drivers’ time savings have overwhelmingly gone to those traveling *outside* the toll zone (i.e., driving from Brooklyn to Queens or within NJ) – not those headed into Manhattan.
Me, in Bloomberg 🧵
A Minnesota woman observing ICE agents in her car was cornered on one-way streets. An agent approached, called her by name—citing facial recognition. Days later, her Global Entry and TSA privileges were revoked, with no explanation.
Here's how Visit Seattle maps out regional transportation options for 40 million visitors a year:

“Obviously, the lane closures have a big impact on commuters... making this a great opportunity to promote Seattle’s many alternative transportation methods — some of which visitors come to Seattle to experience, like the Monorail, ferry, and water taxi.”

Seattle's crisis response team leader Amy Barden hasn't met with Police Chief Shon Barnes since Bruce Harrell appointed him in 2024, despite the fact that the two departments are supposed to work together to decide which 911 calls require cops and which require a social work/mental health response.
