Breda O’Brien is spot on in her article in today’s @irishtimes.com - the Department have decided that bullying teachers into reform is easier than actually funding or supporting it properly.

Just send a video of you holding the phone up to the binoculars and send it on- it's probably a boxing ticking exercise

"Masked security forces captured an opposition leader in the coastal province of New Jersey as regime officials continue their months-long crack-down against pro-democracy elements in the embattled United States. The arrest comes as the regime issued calls for summary detentions without trial."

You're right about it being hard to enforce but we need to de-normalise kids having smart phones before 16- the damage being done is bonkers- I see it in secondary school classes daily. Concentration has fallen off a cliff since I started 20 years ago.

Ring road is needed . It's madness that all traffic from west of Galway city ie the entirety of Connemara has to travel through Galway city centre to get to east of
Galway city ie towards the capital city and all Airports. Remove this traffic from Galway city please!

11 months ago 0 0 1 1

I think people travelling from the suburbs to town would feel safer cycling if there was less traffic also

Agreed- everyone moving from Connemara to east of Galway city has to drive through Galway city centre which is madness- remove the traffic that doesn't need to be in town- wide new bridge desperately needed.

Norse Past, Victorian Present: Orcadian readings of 'Orkneyinga Saga' - The Bottle Imp I am privileged to work in a school in the village of Pierowall on the Orkney island of Westray, and my Monday morning commute is pretty spectacular. At Kirkwall airport, I board the little eight-seat...

“Orkneyinga Saga… is at once a historical chronicle & a literary fantasy. It is a Christian book of bloodshed that celebrates saints alongside murderers. Rich in paradox, invention & embellishment…”

They banned drink on good Friday, see, on account of the Romans. So we'd all buy cans on the Thursday. "Gimme a bag o cans", you'd say. 'Course back then they were a pound a can, so you could fill a bag. A pound was what they called Euros...

A printed book page with the closing paragraph of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Below the final printed words, the following handwritten paragraph:

As he drifted away I could just make
out his final words.

“It’s ok if you just call me ‘Frankenstein’
instead of ‘Frankenstein’s Monster.’

I really don’t mind.”

I can never forget that ending. Stays with you like the Arctic wastes themselves.

On the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, we thought we'd answer a question that's often asked,

"If they raised the Mary Rose, why not raise the Titanic?"

Allow our scaled diagram to explain...

"No matter how corrupt, greedy, and heartless our government, our corporations, our media, and our religious & charitable institutions may become, the music will still be wonderful. If I should ever die, God forbid, let this be my epitaph: The only proof he needed for the existence of God was music."
