[ Loud dad sneeze. ]
... Goodness. Must be the weather.
... Hm. Jayne tells me Birdling's not left his room in quite some time.
(Nc)
Ground me? How can you ground me when you don’t even have custody?
@doctor-jay.bsky.social (nc)
This your home father?
[ NC ]
................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................ You are grounded until UNIVERSITY, you little shit.
His name isn't short for anything.
I did not.
Good.
... Hmm. What was that, now?
Not so difficult for me, son.
It's his name, isn't it?
... Hm?
Birdling's name isn't so difficult to remember.
Hm. It seems we do see eye to eye there.
I only ever want what is best for patients. And make no mistake, it was not accident that I got to the position I hold today.
It takes much hard work and dedication. Discipline, too.
Quite the noble cause, I'd say.
Though it is only the utmost basic of requirements in royalty that a Prince care for and protect his subjects. I'm not quite sure how much I should be congratulating you for it.
Before the elder bird could walk off with his son, he was stopped by someone behind him. "Dude, what the hell is your problem?" Susie was indignant. "Cut Berdly a break." He turned around to look at her, an utterly offended expression on his face, while Berdly looked at Susie with a more neutral, and rather... unreadable expression. "Excuse me? " Robin put a hand on his heart. "I happen to be his father, you know." "Oh, yeah, believe me, I know," Susie rolled her eyes. "I could tell. Cut him some slack, though. It's not his fault." "Oh, yes it is," Robin retorted, pointing a finger at her. "His fault for hanging around bad influences like you, girl. You must have planted an idea to ditch school in his head, and now -- " She interrupted him mid-sentence. "You got any night goggles?" "No," He replied. "What in the world does that have to do with the conversation? Why do you ask." Susie smirked. "It must be dark if you have your head that far up your ass." Robin was taken aback, recoiling with a hand on his chest and giving a loud, disgusted huff. "Aahah, um, S-Susie," Alphys but in. "That was, a... a good one, b-but let's try and watch our l-language in school."
Susie snapped her fingers a couple of times for Robin's attention. "Hey, I don't know where you got the idea..." She said. "But, Berdly and I... aren't friends." She was surprised to find she actually hated saying this right in front of the dude, but... she was trying to cover Berdly's ass here. Not land him in even more hot water with his dad. And it seemed Berdly himself caught onto that a bit — the slightest smile on his face. "I'm just showing the dude some basic respect," Susie continued. "Gonna guess that's a pretty foreign concept to you." Robin gave another huff. "Ugh... I don't have to put up with this. Come on, Birdling," He took Berdly's hand and started to walk off with him, using his other hand to pull out his phone and begin texting. "We'll be waiting for your mother outside." He rolled his eyes. "Knowing her, we may have to wait hours before she'll arrive at a time that she calls 'fashionably late'."
OOC : // If I'm gonna share excerpts of Robin's characterization in Level Up I also feel legally obligated to share him and Susie's interactions from the fic because this is some writing I'm still proud of (Yay We Love You Susie Yayyy)
I see. I see.
Equally as respectable specialties. I briefly studied physics when I attended university, way back when.
[ A curt nod. ]
You're welcome.
Hello, then, Doctor.
Are there any... specific medical fields you specialize in?
... Very well.
You have my word. I'll take care of him.
[ He's lying. Not intentionally or maliciously so, but he is lying. Perhaps he doesn't even realize he is. ]
“Jayne, you don’t understand… I’m only worried about his future,” Robin said in defense of himself. “Grades matter so, so much at his age! You’d know this yourself! You and I were in highschool once, too!” As he was earlier, he was still hung up over that one thing. “Do you really think that any of the best universities out there would take him under their wings with grades like Cs ?!” “Robin, for the love of god, it’s one frickin’ class!” Jayne snapped back at him. “And why does he need to go to some ‘prestigious university’? He’d be just fine at a community college.” “An average grade is worse than a failing one,” Robin replied, side-eyeing her. “Someone who failed miserably will be remembered,” He slowly made his way over to his car. “Hell, maybe they’ll be given a second chance. And it’ll be there where they actually succeed,” He fiddled with the lock. “But someone who was nothing but woefully average will just be forgotten. An old teacher of mine told me that, once.” Robin shot a glare in Jayne’s direction as he opened the door to his car, and as he spoke, he'd dramatically gesture with his hands. “Do you want him to just fade into obscurity? Or do you want the better option: to see him blow teachers and professors alike away with his genius? To see him succeed everywhere with flying colors?”
OOC : // I feel like this excerpt from my old Magnitomb fic shows some of this. He sucks so so bad I have to stress this so hard but in his weird roundabout fucked way he does care about Berdly
OOC : // Robin sucks really really bad but I do have to stress that he isn't 100% a one-note no-questions-asked evil dad and actually has. Complexities to him. Reasons why he is the way he is. He's an asshole but he's not actively malicious yk
. . .
[ In a rare show of emotion from him, Robin's brows knit together in mild concern. ]
I perish the thought of injury befalling my son. I am quite sorry to hear you've been having such unpleasant dreams lately.
... Are you, perhaps, concerned that I would not take care of him?
... Mm.
And who might you be.
Stable condition.
[ Curtly adjusting his glasses, maintaining his flat expression. ]
... I'm a little surprised, that you ask. Then again though, I've heard you've been visiting quite a bit. Trust that we are taking good care of him.
... Quite nice to hear.
[ Narrowing his eyes a little. His expression hardly shifts otherwise. ]
Are there... any specific kinds, you spoke of.
Hm. Extracurricular activities, I see.
Always rather nice to see my son indulging in... more mature interests, for a change.
... Why, yes.
