FWIW- US military bases have schools attached to them. Every school I went to from K-8 was ON a military base. Also playgrounds, hospitals, churches, parks, grocery stores, daycares… and lots of family homes.

We lived in the Philippines for 2 1/2 years when I was a kid. There was a sugarcane field about two blocks from our house. I so remember the times of year when they would burn off the cane and black ash would be floating through the air. We were little kids and would run out screaming black snow!
