Has anyone yet written a package so I can listen to 4D-STEM? (Maybe @cophus.bsky.social would know?)
Some of the datasets must be delightfully polyphonic

This is your regular reminder that EVERYONE who speaks has an accent.
I've had to flag to some colleagues that on leave I will not have email access and so they do actually need to get paperwork to me in advance.
It can be tricky crossing the e-cultural barrier.

On the one hand, I'm sad to be missing M&M this year and I hope you're all having a blast ๐
On the other, this is the traffic I'm currently dealing with ๐ฅฐ
My mother has saffron in her cupboards that saw the fall of the Berlin wall.
No occasion has yet been deemed fancy enough.
There was a year where I was regularly commuting between ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ and ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ. I have dozens of photos from the east coast mainline between Newcastle and Edinburgh- every single week, blazing sun in the toon, and gloomy grey as soon as you hit the border.
I took it as a sign to move a little to the south ๐
Uh oh. I fear I'm increasingly close to acquiring a scythe

I am not someone in need of another distinct hobby..
It's not that person ๐
But I do think genuinely having no hobbies or interests outside of work is sad (not in the haha-loser sense, but in that it's a huge shame)
This brought to you by my recent thoughts on taking up scything, (there's a course near Whernside)
I've chosen against it for now, as the patch of ground I look after is next to a graveyard and I think (on balance), that a loud strimmer is less upsetting than strolling along with a scythe ๐
In a previous job, the lab-head welcomed us with "you have no time for hobbies now, science is your hobby"
I laughed, at what I thought was obvs a joke
Please, have hobbies and passions beyond work. It doesn't mean you're lazy or profligate, it means you experience more of what it is to be human.
Found it ๐ (on the key hook, of all places, where *I* definitely didn't put it ๐ )
Okay, for ten points, where have I put my bike key?
It's somewhere in my house (bike locked in shed, key only comes out if locked), not in usual place (raincoat pocket), bike panniers, with house or work keys, or on the handy corner of the worktop.
I need to find it by 6.30pm!
Then I really hope step three is introducing the Democracy Sausage to the UK ๐๐

Maybe I'm slightly cynical this week, but a risk they end up being a how-to-guide to bully someone most effectively?
The world's best beach ๐
Did I go on a whole diversion just for the joy of the pronunciation and etymology?
Yes, of course, yes ๐๐

Haha, yes, my phone tries to autocorrect el- anything to electron microscopy ๐
I can never spell "physics" correctly at the first go.
And yet, "ptychography" is just fine? ๐คฏ
You can get tick removal tools that are credit card sized. One lives in my handbag (I walk through woodland most days), as earlier removal helps.
They cost pennies.
๐ญ๐ญ why do I have to be called out like that?
Not sure if that's better or worse than the EPSRC approach which was just to close fellowships..

Very pleased to be able to share a recently published mini-review on phase related applications of 4D-STEM methods:
Phase Imaging Methods in the Scanning Transmission Electron Microscope, with Gabriel Sanchez-Santolino, Satoko Toyama, Tekehito Seki and Naoya Shibata

I may have spoken too soon, and angered the flight delay gods ๐ญ
Have managed to walk 15k steps around the airport while waiting, aiming to find the longest route without self intersecting (just shy of 1km)
Woohoo! Congratulations ๐
