The realist esthetic is always just a mask for refusing to admit that disagreement is possible. It's a way for somebody to say "look at me, I'm smart!" while at the same time saying "anyone who disagrees with me is just too stupid or weak to live in reality like me."

I try to comfort myself, saying that Trump is too incompetent to actually break the system. The problem is that we actually need a strong president right now - we're literally staring down the barrel of a total American collapse. Incompetence is as ruinous as malice, and he has both in equal measure

It's worse than that. One of the options was "In order to stop the other side from sinking the boat, we're going to drill holes in it and let the water in."

This administration is joining the War on Inflation... On the side of inflation.
