i dont think there will ever be a solid choice everyone agrees on tbh, but after doing more research i really wont bother with anything besides matrix. eventually the other ones are going to do age verification & sell our data too. matrix is the only thing really protected from all that

tbh even if you dont self host for matrix the fact that you can make channels / calls end to end encrypted already gives you way more privacy than something like discord. having the option is great if things get even Worse

ive still been using discord + then matrix on the side for now

at first i wasnt very happy with the clients i tried but the problem with stuff like root, fluxer, etc. is that they very well can just turn into discord down the line due to being closed source & private. but with stuff thats self-hostable, federated and open source you have a lot more freedom.

yknow i do feel obligated to say that now there are two matrix clients working on screenshare / discord like voice channels. cinny & commet. commet now has screenshare, but no audio sharing. both of these clients work similar to discord.

i havent posted in awhile because i was trying to get back into drawing & also social media is sooo draining sometimes but i will be back to evanatsu posting soon i promise.....

i guess depending on the hobby maybe you could go to some subreddit? tbh I've mostly been sticking to the mutual only posts feed for the most part when im feeling overwhelmed

it's a chat client that operates similar to discord, but instead of an icon sidebar for servers you have tabs basically. it's still relatively new and is rough around the edges but it's a decent alternative imo

well turns out what I was afraid of turned out to be true lol... this is still my take on other alternatives tbh

I've noticed such an insane spike in people being 'edgy' that I really don't like. the r slur being used a bunch and people using the word degenerate not realizing it's tied to eugenics and n*zis. idk

its honestly demoralizing to see people who view themselves as progressive making diddy and epstein jokes like it's somehow funny to throw their names around. like they weren't very real people who traumatized so many little girls and women. idk how did we get here

I think what's frustrating to me is how he has had this mindset for such a long time. he manages to write really nice complex women (the umi moms are my faves) & I love exploring the themes of misogyny in his works. but he drops the ball a lot because of this idea he just won't let go
