So, today I'm announcing a new book project... and doing a call for papers: crpgbook.wordpress.com/2025/10/31/t...
It's an anthology of video game history outside the usual US perspective - an accessible & exciting panorama of different realities - and I'll pay 300 USD per article.
Please share :)
Published research with @mitpress.bsky.social, or heck, pretty much anywhere? Check this Class Action Law Suit.

My review of 'Border Tunnels' by Juan Llamas-Rodriguez (@llamasjr.bsky.social) was just published by Journal of Cinema and Media Studies. I give this book my strongest recommendation for scholars and teachers of cultural / border / game / media studies!

I did one of these recently with my own (meager) travel funds because a) a friend organized, b) it was good networking and exposure for me and c) it helped build community on Latin America and games.
Otherwise I would offer a remote keynote? Not worth the line in the CV if it costs $$$

OMG I heard a rumor that my book Cultural Code: Video Games and Latin America (price $50) was LEAKED!
They say anyone who follows the link can just read it for FREE. My work is publicly accessible. 😱 If people shared this link or the PDF the word could spread further. 😬😬😉

órale, I'm here for that!
Genre studies of games are mostly stuck on early 2000s formalism.
These 2 companion volumes push game studies toward understandings of games as 'equipment for living' and genres as located in the social and cultural conditions of their production and consumption.

I love this book as a resource, but no doubt it has many problems--lumping together "Africa" and "Arab World" but Austria, Germany and Ireland each get a chapter? But there wasn't a lot to build on in terms of regional game studies when it was published. The field has grown since, but more needed!
As a scholar of games in the global south I'm super-excited about all the discussion your recent article has generated! ❤️ And at the same time I see comments from people who don't know research on this subject even exists. This shoutout is 🔥🔥🔥 Souvik, Luis and others have been at it for a minute!
BTW, the amazing @thevideogamelibrary.org has a curation of books on video games from a more global perspective, it's worth a look: www.thevideogamelibrary.org/blog/hashtag...
Curious about games in India & South Asia? There's a book called "Videogames in the Indian Subcontinent", and much more! :)
