The team are shortlisted in the Transforming Care for Older People category, for developing services such as a Frailty Same Day Emergency Care Unit.

Congratulations to Sana Gul, registered nurse and student midwife, who has been nominated for the Ann Shuttleworth Rising Star Award at the 2025 Nursing Times Awards.
Sana qualified as a registered nurse in the UK in 2023 and is currently in her final year of her midwifery studies.
Surgeons at the Trust have successfully performed a robotic-TAMIS surgery, the first robotic colorectal #surgery of its kind to be performed in Birmingham and the Black Country.
Transanal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS) is a technique to remove polyps and early-stage #cancers from the rectum.

The team braved 24.8 miles, 61,000 steps, nearly 10 hours of wind and climbs to complete one of the UK’s toughest hikes.

Felicia Selvaraj, aged 63, has become the first patient to undergo “awake” breast surgery at the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital in Smethwick.
The retired NHS nurse underwent a right total mastectomy and sentinel node biopsy under regional anaesthesia and conscious sedation.
Meet Leo - he's a critical care outreach nurse, who's also part of the team heading up the #CallForConcern service.
This service is for inpatients and their families to ask for immediate help and advice if they feel concerned about their own or their loved one's condition.

Two weeks after moving to the Midland Met, Stephen is settling in well at the new hospital.
Previously, he told us how he'd spent 50 years working at City Hospital, starting his role as a domestic aged just 16.
Our chaplains would like to welcome all patients, visitors and staff to our Spiritual Care Centre. Located on Level 5 of The Midland Met, it is open between 7am and 10pm for private prayer and meditation.
Outside of these hours, please speak to a member of staff who will accompany you.
