A lovely few days spent in Milan for my first ESPAnet conference, where I had the opportunity to present research on the politics of social safety nets and on social assistance decentralisation. Thank you to all organisers, staff and to all researchers passionate about the welfare state!

Spent a lovely few days in Barcelona to attend the doctoral workshop on comparative social and public policy at @upf.edu , co-organised by researchers from @uab.cat and @ub.edu. Very interesting work being done and what a city to spend Spring evenings!

Had the opportunity to share a bit of my overall PhD research. When do welfare states change their approach to poverty in social policy? Why do some ‘stick’ to new approaches and others struggle to break policy legacies? These are some questions I’m working on answering 🤔

April 25: 51st anniversary of the coup that started the Carnation Revolution, ending 48 years of fascism and paving the way to democracy and the end of 500 years of Portuguese colonialism. Also, the 80th anniversary of Italian liberation from nazifascism. 25 de Abril sempre, fascismo nunca mais!

Portugal is a month away from elections. Having used my Sunday to catch up on debates and interviews, many politicians - not only on the neoliberal right - have much to learn from this.

A great read and important work on the politics of minimum income!

Had the pleasure to present my PhD project at the congress of the Portuguese political science association, in Lisbon. So nice to be home again and keep up with the interesting work being done here and by other Portugal-bred researchers working abroad. See you in two years, APCP!
