There we go James, we've just levelled up to the point where adding a single word to a MS fills us with anguish. Go us!

Tempted to get 'typey typey type tra la la' on a t-shirt I can wear to conventions
the hilarious thing about writing is, of course, the better you get at it, the harder it is. Your own standards go up. Some days I miss farting out endless paragraphs of guff as a baby writer - the freedom, the innocence, etc etc
I'm making one last push to let people know about this online talk -- sponsored by the British Library in conjunction with their current exhibition on fairy tales. The live stream starts at 7:30 tonight, but if you buy a ticket *before* the event you can watch it any time over the next 7 days.
have you read People Who Eat Darkness or Ghosts of the Tsunami by Richard Lloyd Parry? Difficult content in places but really good.
ah, wow, jeez. How this instantly took me back to working in a bookshop 🥹 Fun times, fun times.
ha! I've been in the cafe at the Beacon I think - like everywhere in Bristol, the food is great
I hate Al and I refuse to use it Peter, if you don't use Al a bunch of super rich men will lose a lot of money I already said I hated Al Harry, you don't need to sell it to me
I bought some Bristol trousers (wide, comfortable loose fitting colourful trousers) so I suspect I have gone fully native at this point.
From “The Simpsons” house genius John Swartzwelder, interviewed in The New Yorker by Mike Sacks
I hate that my insta grid is no longer made up of squares. What’s with this rectangle nonsense.
With voting now open for this year's British Fantasy Awards, we're calling for jurors. Once voting is closed, the shortlist goes to a jury of peers to choose a winner. Fancy being part of the action?

Why is it that the most vocal cheerleaders of generative A.I. are always the hackiest motherfreakers around? You expect studio executives to say things like “it’s going to revolutionize content,” and “from a bottom-line standpoint it’s inevitable,” and “I’ve finally found an instrument as cold and empty as myself,” but you’d hope that an artist would have more self-respect.
of course you CAN use AI to "write" your book but you run the risk of a lethally derisive colson whitehead materializing in your office to call you a hacky motherfreaker

Balsamic Moved-to-Bristol has a certain ring to it...
front cover art for Knock's folklore bestiary, OSR version. it shows a trio of adventurers facing a tentacled monster which coils around the edges of the frame, bristling with eyes and pincers. the adventurers - a hooded rogue, a burly knight, and a short, haunted-looking wizard all group togehter, looking daunted.
ink drawing of a figure stabbed through the back by a sword. the sword is in red ink, the figure in black. the figure has a wizened, anguised face, and wears a shaggy cape and hood made from ragged reeds. they have long-nailed hands moving as if to clutch at the blade run through them.
An illustrated map, bisecting several interwoven grass basket buildings clinging to the side of a tree. Small animals like rodents, shrews and hedgehogs bustle around a busy market and show ground, while larger animals like birds peer in through skylights above. Smaller floral chambers are attached to the main hall, overflowing with wild flowers and each occupied by a colourful pageant competing butterfly.
a page of black and white illustrations showing multiple artefacts and depictions of tombs and burials of many kinds, including a bog body, terracotta warriors, an air burial and an ossuary.

I'm playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance and so far I have watched my parents die horribly, thrown horse shit at a house, invented forensic science, learned to read in three days, and gone on an all night bender with the local priest.
This game is genius, I love it.
