2. I'm moving to Philadelphia! Do I know anybody in Philly? Know of anybody doing cool art/tech stuff? Please let me know I have literally only been there once (last week).

Some life updates:

1. I'm working as a full time dev on The Light Phone! This has actually been true for the past ~year as of Monday I am officially employed by Light. I'd been a fan for a long time and it's a dream to work on these devices. This company really walks the walk.

There is a special lounge in heaven for people who buy electronic components on Amazon and then leave tips/pictures in a review of how they got them working 🫡

same in cambridge, building is shaking. "fortunately" kid is sick and nobody's sleeping anyways so it's kind of a two-birds, one miserable night situation

I decided that it was finally time to post about Literoom.app, a tool I've been developing on and off (and over and over again) for the past couple of years.

❤️
Two little things I observed:
- When I was about to publish and was adding tags, the ones I selected seemed to disappear from the UI (but they were there when I published)
- found myself wanting to link to a section of my own page (like I would with a '#' normally)

But overall a lovely experience

When URLs go IRL: AKA The only way I'm letting my kid near YouTube I built a system that allows my 3-year-old to select videos from a printed binder using a cheap QR code scanner. No remote, no distracting thumbnails, no YouTube app at all! Here's what I did.

I've been feeling guilty about posting only short-form clips about my more recent projects. It's important to me that everything I do is as open as possible. So I'm going to try to start writing things up again here, and I'm hoping to get some real YouTube stuff posted soon. Feel free to sub :)

Dunno yet! Only up and running a few days. Aiming for "as infrequently as possible" though it's trivial to add/remove

ATOMIC Barcode/QR-Code Scanner 2 Base Description Atomic QRCode2 Base is specifically designed for the ATOM series hosts. It is an integrated 1D/2D barcode scanning base that supports 3 major types of 2D barcodes and 8 types of 1D barcode...

It's the older model of this (im not sure what the difference is) + their little ESP32 plugin board. I got a box of them on eBay dirt cheap last year and they are my new fave thing

Made an "analog" YouTube book for my kid so she can choose what she wants (from pre-approved list) without being exposed to a thumbnail hellscape. Also automatically cuts her off after x scans

We're working on patience and politeness and saying "please" with the 3YO but we have one exception which is that she's categorically allowed to tell any adult to "put your phone away"

There's an ESP32-C3 on each, software is written in MicroPython. Was originally gonna use ESP-NOW for communication but ended up going with WiFi so I could hack around on a computer as well

Handheld game console made from a custom black PCB. The top left says OMCB2GO in gold. The top right has a large power switch. There are twenty blue LEDs which are used as a binary counter in the top center. There is a large glowing checkbox made from circular LEDs in the center. Below that are three buttons, one to scroll left, one to scroll right, and one to check or uncheck the current box.

I drew the legend @itseieio.bsky.social for secret santa this year so I made him a handheld, consolized version of One Million Checkboxes. It's still multiplayer, the units sync up wirelessly! the LEDs up top show you which checkbox is currently selected
