Yes. Though I'm tending to think it was Mandelson who demanded it β as payback for helping to get Starmer elected. I wasn't aware that Mandelson was part of Starmer's leadership campaign, but now that I do, a lot of the dishonesty and obsession with the Murdoch press makes sense.

Yes. Knowing Mandelson's background and reputation, publicly announcing his appointment BEFORE vetting had even begun was at best incompetent and at worst an attempt to force him through under any circumstances. It put the civil servants in an impossible situation.

If you're looking for highlights of the Olly Robbins testimony, @saulstaniforth.bsky.social has put together some nice clips.

This is so true! It happens on camera at the 35-36 second point. ππ Importantly, I think this is also the moment where Ed Miliband decided he's going to stand for party leader (and PM) again.

True. But the incredibly accumulation of wealth has been relatively recent in the West. And that's what's given these oligarchs their political power. Basically, they no longer feel the need to hide their aspirations.
Like all true scandals, the more you find out, the more questions you have. Why? Because the initial decision to even consider Mandelson for the job was deeply flawed. So whose idea was it to put Mandelson in Washington? Starmers? McSweeney's? Mandelson's? Glasman's? Trump's?
BREAKING: Pressure came from No10 private office Sir Olly Robbins says in evidence to Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee on Mandelson's appointment
In a way, what's happening now makes everything clearer. For decades, they've been hiding their neo-feudal desires, pretending to be part of our system. But now it's clear that they've opted out of everything we believe in: society, democracy, civil rights β they want to take all of it away from us.
Yes. I've always believed that the answers to almost every problem are out there somewhere, being done in another country. But domestic politicians everywhere seem too afraid to admit that another nation or region might be doing something better.
Is this what really happened in the Mandelson affair? π€

This is a fascinating and revealing article about the "real" Keir Starmer at No.10. It's pretty damning β and many who've been critical of him will find the reasons for his behaviour laid out here in his character.
Yep. You can't successfully challenge RefUK while supporting their cornerstone policy of Brexit. By accepting Brexit, you accept RefUK's narrative β and you just get into a debate about which of you can do it better.

Andy Burnham .... Oh, wait. Starmer and Blue Labour blocked him from becoming an MP so that thy could say, "There's no alternative to Starmer". ... Sorry, but if Labour can't find anyone better than Starmer, then we're really screwed.

He's been using the same grift all his life. But he's bitten off more than he can chew this time.
Meanwhile in the Tacoverse ...

Sorry to be overly sincere for a second, but here's why we decided to persevere through all of the bullshit and take over InfoWars.
There's just gotta be a line somewhere.
Thank you @pablo.show for letting me talk so openly about this.

It criticises liberal rights and culture, calls for compulsory military service and wants our defence run by AI.
Hi Josh. Do you have a pic of your 10kwh battery? (Or similar) How big are we talking about?
I was busy today, so what's the verdict? Is Starmer out of the woods or deeper in the sh*t?
