Thought this was quite lovely.
Always good to remind yourself that not everything is awful right now.

STEWART: “Comedy doesn’t change the world, but it’s a bellwether— we’re the banana peel in the coal mine… authoritarians are the threat to comedy, music, art, thought… progress.”
Nailed it.
We tried out in New Haven. Now, I was not sure about my own self at that time...So, when I was called out to do the play, part of me was resisting everything, everything. My thought was, I'm going to show everyone why I shouldn't be in this play. When we opened in New Haven, I basically just laid down. I said said “Okay, I'm going to be so bad they're going to get rid of me." So I got terrible reviews. Elizabeth [Ashley] did well. They all loved her and she was great. But, my perversity had everyone down on me. I thought, well, this is good, now they'll replace me. Mike took me to lunch and said, “Look, I think I know what you're doing, and it's not going to work. No matter how bad you try to behave, I'm not going to replace you." So I said, "Well, I'm now going to get worse.” I decides I'm not gonna let him win this one, I'm going to show him. I'm going to be so bad he's gotta replace me.
For decades, Redford had a tortured relationship with acting--one critic described him as behaving like the handsome high school senior who'd grudgingly agreed to star in the class play. Here's some raw transcript from when I asked him about Mike Nichols directing him in Barefoot in the Park. (1/2)

Sold out.
The most beautiful Canadian-made plane.
And Heather O’Neill. They’ve taken the American banned list and started adding Canadian authors…
I’ve done stories on elite male cheerleaders. They are good people—and they never drop the girl. 💙 They know which way the winds blow.

Thank you! I present writers in Calgary with @wordfest and now I’m obsessed with this cover too!
My sport.
“The big lie is that Albertans think that the regulator is going to look at what’s submitted and, if those promises and requirements aren’t met, then the company is going to have to fix it. Well, here’s the paper that says that’s not true.”
Why are we so bad at regulating our resource economy?
Watch him in The Companion! Full movie is on YouTube. He’s so underrated.
Sometimes you get lucky, even in a time when it’s hard to believe in luck anymore. I got lucky last week and saw Tyler Childers playing in the shadow of a giant T-Rex on the side of a highway. I was so happy on the way home I didn’t even think about my bitin’ list. www.nytimes.com/2025/08/04/o...

Bravo!
My pharmacy couldn’t give me a booster because there was no billing code. I offered to pay but they had no fee schedule. This was at the beginning of July.
In summary:
1. Something that is effectively eliminating jobs (AI) and causing more climate change problems,
2. Is putting more of a burden on the average consumer, especially those who are in lower income brackets,
3. Who have to suffer environmentally as a result.
