The Trail Blazers Ball brought together activists, artists, scientists, and community leaders to celebrate those on the frontlines of environmental and social justice…we’re proud to stand with them in our shared mission to explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places that connect us all.

While Trump and Musk are destroying the government programs American families rely on, Republicans in Congress are cheering them on while many Democrats are failing to put up a real fight.
They work for us, the American people, and it’s time for some answers.

At a recent event, @sierraclub.org executive director @benjealous.bsky.social called for a more inclusive environmental movement. Addressing the extinction & climate crises we’re facing, he said, requires “uncomfortably large coalitions”—broad alliances across racial, cultural, & political divides.

Ben Jealous speaking at a podium at Stanford
Shutting down coal-fired power has already prevented 70k US deaths in the US, points out @benjealous.bsky.social of @sierraclub.org, speaking at @stanforddoerr.bsky.social. Toxins from coal burning and other bad practices kill w/o regard to skin color or income. Environmentalism welcomes everyone.
"Donald Trump’s playbook has always been to campaign like a populist and govern like an oligarch," @benjealous.bsky.social, the Sierra Club's executive director, writes in his latest column.
BREAKING: @campaignlegal.org @ucsusa.bsky.social @jacl-national.bsky.social & Sierra Club have filed a lawsuit challenging Elon Musk and DOGE's unlawful & devastating funding & staffing cuts to the U.S. National Park Service & Forest Service www.sierraclub.org/press-releas...
In response, Ben Jealous, Executive Director at the Sierra Club, issued the following statement: “President Trump’s belief that tariffs alone will help revitalize American manufacturing is simply not rooted in basic economics. What’s more, his chaotic approach to tariffs, wielding them for objectives like border security or to encroach on Canadian sovereignty, undermines their legitimate use as a tool for responsible trade policy. A strategic approach to using tariffs to reinvigorate U.S. industry would include strong domestic investments in manufacturing and the clean energy economy, ensuring trade partners abide by the same high environmental and labor standards as American companies, and plans to continue sourcing critical materials that we don’t make enough of, like aluminum for cars and solar panels, from our closest allies.”
As Canada & Mexico tariffs go into effect, Sierra Club's @benjealous.bsky.social says the chaotic approach will hurt US workers & manufacturers.

In Pasadena for the NAACP Image Awards
Proud to be here as the Sierra Club’s Angeles Chapter helps communities recover from fires. Tonight, I’m celebrating my godbrother Dave as he receives the NAACP President’s Award, continuing a legacy of justice his great-grandfather led over a century ago.
What has been good for the NFL is good for America. Inclusion works. The Rooney rule works. POTUS needs to stop messing with America’s formula for success.

In Altadena, I stood where the Eaton Fire took lives, homes, and livelihoods. We are caretakers of this garden, and it’s on fire. As Black History Month begins, we’re reminded that environmental justice is racial justice. We must act now for a just, resilient future.

Donald Trump promised to fight for working Americans. Now he’s trying to pull back funding that’s created jobs, rebuilt infrastructure, and powered our future. Turning back on progress isn’t leadership—it’s an attack on working families.

The climate crisis threatens us all, and the US must lead the world by example: cutting deadly fossil fuel emissions to protect public health. Trump's decision to once again withdraw from the Paris climate agreement is a dereliction of duty.

Congestion pricing isn’t just about less traffic—it’s about protecting the health of working families. By cutting pollution, we’re reducing the risk of asthma, heart, and lung diseases that affect families while investing in the transit they rely on.

The White House today blocked the sale of US Steel to Nippon Steel citing national security concerns.
Sierra Club has also long cited human security concerns with this deal given Nippon's plans to lock in coal-based iron and steel production until at least 2050.
