Yet somehow,

Many fights for labor rights exclude sex workers.

Fights for immigrant rights, racial justice, reproductive rights, lgbtq rights, disability rights exclude sex workers

Because these groups- despite being marginalized- arent ready to hear from sex workers

Because most sex workers aren't in positions of massive social privilege.

Which means there is always overlap between sex workers and other groups.

People generally turn to sex work because they can't find ways to survive in conventional society.

Moral panics are almost always about instituting greater state surveillance — your sex life, your genitals, your reproductive history, your browser history.

None of the solutions the EU (or US) is proposing are particularly effective at keeping kids safe online. But they're great surveillance tools

In other labor sectors, worksite raids sparked solidarity and resistance. But sex workers are left to fend for themselves.

The broader immigrant rights movement appeals to respectability — with lines between the “deserving” and the disposable. When ICE targets sex workers, many remain silent.

Few immigrant rights organizations defend migrant sex workers. Support mainly comes from other sex workers in underfunded grassroots groups like Red Canary Song, Trans Immigrant Project, and DecrimSexWorkCA, the last of which has organized ICE patrols, and distributed over $20,000 in emergency relief to undocumented and other sex workers since 2023. Their model is mutual aid, not charity.

Groups like @redcanarysong.bsky.social and @decrimsexworkca.bsky.social are doing critical aid for workers who maybe to afraid to leave the house or are being pressured to drop rates or see riskier clients.

They are desperate for more funding and support.

Thousands of sex workers are being swept up in targeted ICE raids of massage parlors and abducted off streets with the help of facial recognition. Law enforcement is using the threat of deportation to commit widespread sexual assault.

But the larger immigrant rights movement is shunning them.
